Criteria
Beedie Luminaries has created the The Refugee & Immigrant Student Education (RISE) Awards which have the potential to transform the lives of its recipients and enrich the communities we live in, and ultimately create a new generation of conscientious, caring and engaged Canadian leaders. You must:
- Be a refugee who was granted permanent residency or a protected person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) after January 1, 2016, residing full-time in BC for the previous 6 consecutive months.
- Be born between the years of 1988 and 2004. Have completed secondary school (or equivalent).
- Plan to be a full-time or part-time student and use funding for post secondary education.
- Apply to, or be currently enrolled at, one of the eligible post-secondary institutions.
- Demonstrate your and/or your family’s financial adversity, and how it has affected you.
- Be endorsed by a community organization, teacher, employer, settlement worker or someone who knows you well.
Value
- Up to $11,000 CAD per year for a college certificate/diploma or trades foundation programs,
tenable for up to two years of funding OR Up to $11,000 CAD per year for a bachelors degree program, tenable for up to four years of funding. (FULL-TIME STUDENTS) - Up to $5,500 CAD per year for a college certificate/diploma or trades foundation programs,
tenable for up to three years of funding OR Up to $5,500 CAD per year for a bachelors degree program, tenable for up to six years of funding. (PART-TIME STUDENTS)

Applications for Cohort 2024 of the RISE Program are now open and will close on January 31st at 9AM (PST).
