Pathways to Teacher Education Scholarship

Criteria

The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment and aptitude for a career path in K-12 teaching.

Students selected as conditional recipients of the Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship must meet the following requirements by August 31 of their graduating year to be confirmed as a recipient and receive their scholarship voucher:

  • Meet core eligibility requirements
  • Be eligible for a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma)
  • Fulfill the requirements of the B.C. Graduation Program
  • Have the following final marks
    • Minimum “B” average in grades 11 and 12 courses required for graduation
    • Minimum “B” (73% or above) in Language Arts 12
    • Minimum “B” average, no more than one “C+” (67% or above), and no marks lower than “C+” in courses that fulfill graduation requirements for Science 11 or 12, Math 11, and Social Studies 11 or 12

Note: Students may apply for both the Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship and the BC Excellence scholarship, but can be awarded only one.

Value:

$5,000 scholarship voucher to redeem when registered and attending an approved K-12 teacher education program at one of BC’s nine Faculties of Education. Up to 7 years to redeem voucher.

3.    Two reference letters

  • Save these reference letter instructions (PDF, 292KB)
  • Share the instructions with your two referees and have them return signed letters to you (make sure each has an ink or electronic signature)
  • Scan or save digital copies of both letters
  • Be ready to upload both letters as part of your online application
  • Some referees may prefer to submit a letter directly to the ministry; in this case, you must upload to the application a brief, informal note from you in its place that states your referee will email their reference directly to scholarships@gov.bc.ca by the deadline

BC Excellence Scholarship

Criteria

The BC Excellence scholarship is awarded to 55 well-rounded high school graduates who have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and who show aptitude for and commitment to their chosen career paths. You must be nominated by your secondary school to qualify for this scholarship and each school may nominate one student only.

Value

$5000. Students have five years to redeem their BC Excellence scholarship vouchers; an expiry date is printed on each voucher and extensions are not possible.

Key dates

  • Friday, January 30th:  WRITTEN STATEMENT AND RESUME due to Ms. Mihic in Student Services or email by 3pm.

    If selected as the school nominee:
  • February 17, 2026: Applications for 2026 scholarships due by 3 pm
  • Early June 2026: Conditional recipients and their schools notified by email
  • September 2026: Conditional recipients checked against eligibility requirements
  • October 2026: Paper scholarship vouchers mailed to confirmed recipients

Here are the detailed instructions for how to prepare the required information:

City of Burnaby Bursary Award Program

Criteria
  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of the City of Burnaby;
  • Be in Grade 12 and eligible to graduate (within the year of application) from a public secondary school in Burnaby’s School District
  • Be accepted to a program of studies at a post-secondary institution in Canada, such as universities, community colleges, technical schools – proof of registration in a minimum of three courses in a post-secondary institution shall be required before any bursary award payment is made to a recipient
  • Preference will be given to a student who has participated in a community program prior to graduating and can demonstrate outstanding community involvement and volunteerism; and,
  • Students who demonstrate financial need (family income below $50,000) will be given priority.

$1,000 to a Burnaby North student (each school gets one)

Due Date

To Ms. Mihic (paper or email) by FRIDAY, JANUARY 30th  BEFORE 3PM . Disregard the date on the form.

Procedure

Download and complete fillable pdf below  or pick up a paper application in Scholarship Applications tray by Student Services entrance and emailed or delivered to Ms. Mihic by the above date.  The school can nominate up to 3 applicant whereupon the City of Burnaby will select a successful applicant and inform them and the school.

Sikh Heritage BC Scholarships

Criteria

Sikh Heritage BC’s Education project is an opportunity for teachers to create Sikh content for classrooms. In the past, this project was aimed towards educators in the K-12 system looking to incorporate Sikh Heritage in their classrooms. This year, we are expanding our project to include a set of five scholarships.

In keeping with our mandate, Sikh Heritage BC has established five $1,500 scholarships to provide funding for post-secondary to students residing in British Columbia at the time of the application. This scholarship is available to anyone that is attending a Post-Secondary Institute in September 2026. Various scholarships available to students of both Sikh .

Cmolik Scholarship

Criteria

Founded in 2008, The Cmolik Foundation helps students across BC access educational opportunities that shape their career aspirations and possibilities with the support of dedicated educators, mentors, sponsors and volunteers. Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a current resident of BC
  • Have lived in Canada for at least 7 years
  • Be in Grade 12 or a recent secondary school graduate
  • Have demonstrated financial need
  • Have faced adversity
  • Plan to be a full-time student
  • Be ineligible for the BC Tuition Waiver Program (for former youth in care)
  • Use funding for a post-secondary institution or college
  • Be endorsed by their school principal (this is done through Ms. Mihic)

Due Date

Procedure

Part 1: Due MONDAY, JANUARY 17th by 3pm to Ms Mihic:

200-250 written response describing evidence of:

  •  adversity or hardship
  • good work ethic
  •  financial need
  •  leadership involvement

Part 2: DUE FEBRUARY 7th online IF NOMINATED from Part 1:

Schulich Leader Scholarships

Criteria

Student must be planning to study science, technology, engineering, or mathematics at one of the 20 Canadian partner universities next September and possess two of the following:  (i) outstanding community, and/or entrepreneurial leadership, (ii) academic excellence, and alternatively,(iii) financial need.  Not  for students planning a career as a medical practitioner or researcher – this scholarship is geared towards the entrepreneurially-minded student. Note: the school can select only ONE nominee.

Value

Up to 100 awards. Roughly half the awards are valued @ $120,000 for engineering scholarships and the other half is $80,000 for science and math scholarships.

Due Date

In order to be considered for the school’s nomination, you must complete and submit requirements outlined in the “Procedure” section below by MONDAY, January 12th to Ms. Mihic in Student Services or room 2121 or by email at dragana.mihic@burnabyschools.ca.

  • January 12: Submit your nomination package to Ms Mihic by PDF or to Ms. Mihic if in paper
  • January 15th-ish: nominee to be informed
  • January 28th: Ms. Mihic to submit nomination to Schulich Foundation
  • Feb 16: selected nominee to submit their package and video upload to Schulich.
Procedure

Please make sure all documents are in the following order. If emailing, combine all documents into a single .pdf rather than in multiple documents.

  1. An updated resume.
  2. 50-words each describing your top 3 achievements (academic or other).
  3. 50-word answer to cinvey your career aspirations 10 years from now.
  4. A 250-word essay describing what you’re passionate about.
  5. A 250-word essay discussing how you demonstrate an entrepeneurial mindset (including leadership, charisma, and creativity).
  6. A 250-wor essay highlighting what makes you an ideal candidate for this award.
  7. A 250-word optional essay to discuss any additional information, including extenuating circumstances.
  8. Two letters of support from references (at least one academic). THESE CAN EMAILED TO Ms. Mihic DIRECTLY FROM THE REFEREE.
    Contact information for two Referees who will upload reference letters in support of the nomination

    • Note: Referees will receive an email to an online reference request form after the nominee submits their completed scholarship application. All letters of reference and scholarship applications must be completed and received by the February 18, 2026 deadline.
  9. Current transcript that include your Term 1 marks.

Note: you will also need to submit a one-minute video upload and headshot profile image to Schulich (though it will not be part of the nomination process).

The successful nominee will be notified by the school in mid- January.

Note: if selected, there will be time for the nominee to “tidy up” all supporting documents before formal submission by February 16, 2026. The school needs to submit its nominee to the organization by January 28th.
