Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Entrance and Transfer Scholarships

Criteria

Do you know a student entering an engineering or earth sciences program in fall 2021? Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Foundation offers scholarships for graduating high school students entering engineering or earth sciences programs at the University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Institute of Technology, the University of Northern British Columbia, and engineering transfer programs.

Eligibility: Applicants must be graduating from a BC secondary school in 2021 and entering one of the following programs:

  • Engineering degree (B.Eng., B.A.Sc., or similar) at a BC university
  • Engineering transfer (diploma, certificate, or similar) at a Canadian university or college
  • Geoscience/Earth sciences degree (B.Sc. in earth sciences, physical geography, environmental geoscience, etc.) at a BC university.

Leanne Sjodin Melorial Bursary

Criteria

This bursary is provided in honour of Burnaby teacher, Leanne Sjodin, who taught from 2000 to 2023. Leanne was also the president of the Burnaby Teachers’ Association from 2018 to 2020, and an artist, mother, and friend. She was passionate about social justice and making the world a better place.

Confratellanza Italo-Canadese 2024 Scholarship

Criteria

The scholarships are open to this year’s graduating secondary school students planning to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution for the first time in 2021.  To be eligible for this scholarship candidates must:

1) be of Italian origin i.e. as having at least one parent or grandparent of direct Italian descent,

2) be living in a city or municipality within the Greater Vancouver Regional District (that includes Burnaby!)

3) have an academic standing sufficient to qualify for entry into the post-secondary institution of their choice

The scholarship winner will be determined by a selection committee appointed by the directors of the Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Society. The decision of the Selection Committee will be final.

BRTA Wynn Richmond Bursary

Criteria

The Burnaby Retired Teachers’ Scholarship and Bursary Foundation is administered through a sub-committee of the Burnaby Retired Teachers’ Association. The funds for this bursary are held and managed by the Vancity Community Foundation. As a former educator, she wished to recognize a student who meets the following criteria:

1. The student should have been enrolled in a Burnaby school for his/her two senior years and maintained a high standard of achievement.

2. The student must intend to pursue an Education Degree at one of the following B.C. post-secondary institutions:

  • University of British Columbia
  • Simon Fraser University
  • University of Victoria
  • Vancouver Island University
  • University of Northern British Columbia

The Bursary must be claimed within two years of receipt.

BRTA Scholarship

Criteria

The Burnaby Retired Teachers’ Scholarship and Bursary Foundation is administered through a sub-committee of the Burnaby Retired Teachers’ Association. As former educators, we wish to recognize a well-rounded student who meets the following criteria:

1. The student has been enrolled in a Burnaby school for his/her two senior years and has maintained a good standard of achievement.

2. The student intends to register at a post-secondary institution and has financial need.

3. Funds are eligible for Canadian post-secondary institutions only.

ADDITIONAL FACTORS FOR CONSIDERATION

  • Been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work: tutoring, peer counselling, church, clubs, recreation, etc.
  • Been actively involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, leadership, government, dance, music, athletics, debating, etc.
  • Demonstrated special skills, hobbies, interests, and/or training.
  • Demonstrated responsibility.

PAC’s “We Believe in You” Scholarships

Criteria

Your Parent Advisory Council (PAC) offers seven awards of $750 each for graduating students. This award is given to students who can demonstrate a passion and a determination to succeed in their chosen career path, and who plan to pursue post-secondary education.  A grade average of “C” is all that is required.  It is easy to apply – simply write an essay of up 500 words telling us about yourself, your passions, and why you should get the award.

You must have attended Burnaby North for the last 12 months, are planning to attend a post-secondary institution by September and have maintained a minimum “C” average in grades 11 & 12.

International Student Graduate Scholarship

Criteria

Scholarship monies to be awarded to a graduating international student(s)  going on to post-secondary either in Canada or abroad. This student should be an individual who well represents international students and has been successful in their studies.

Procedure

Applicants must submit the following:

  1. Testimonial highlighting their experience in Burnaby including criteria that includes academic, citizenship and volunteering in the school/community. (200 word paragraph in total)
  2. Resume.

If selected,  you will need to complete a brief questionnaire and  a grad photo of the student at graduation accepting their International Award.

Lotus Light Charity Society Scholarship

Criteria

Any Canadian student who is 17 years or older and will start or continue their studies at a
recognized post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis may apply for the Lotus
Light Charity Scholarship to assist in their studies. Applicants will be assessed on scholastic
excellence and community volunteer involvement.

The 2024 LLCS Scholarship application submission period is from March 1 to May 15, 2024,
and successful applicants will be notified in late June.

Procedure

All applications must be submitted via postal mail or drop-off (i.e., no email submissions, no fax submissions), addressed as follows:

BCSSA Grade 12 Scholarship

Criteria

The British Columbia School Superintendents Association will award six regional scholarships to students planning to pursue post-secondary studies. Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship must be currently enrolled in their final year of studies at a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected to graduate in June 2022. One winner will be chosen from each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters (Fraser Valley, Kootenay-Boundary, Metro, Vancouver Island, Northern, Thompson-Okanagan).
