ATTENTION GRADE 10, 11 AND 12 STUDENTS: SHAD VALLEY is an exciting summer program designed for outstanding grade 10,11 and 12 students in Canada who wish to develop their potential as tomorrow’s leaders and change makers. Each year, SHAD provides the opportunity for 600+ students from across Canada and internationally to attend a month-long summer program (in July), in-residence at one of 12 Canadian host universities, focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering & math). Students are selected through a rigorous, competitive process and they are typically top performers typically with grades over 90%, who are also well-rounded emerging leaders demonstrating initiative, creativity and flair. They are leaders in their schools, volunteers in their communities, and are often gifted musicians, artists and athletes.

GRADE 11 AND 12 STUDENTS:
Are you considering a career in the ARTS (visual arts, music, theatre, media or entertainment)? If so, you should consider attending an Arts Focused Post-Secondary Info Night on November 19, 7-9pm at the Plaskett Gallery at Massey Theatre in New Westminster. There will be a panel of speakers/instructors from universities and colleges around the Lower Mainland to discuss program curriculum, registration, admission requirements, job opportunities and more. The following post-secondary institutions will be sending representatives to speak to interested Grade 12 students at Moscrop. If you want to attend any of the following info sessions, come to Student Services (room 317) to sign up. Sign up sheets will be posted on the bulletin board about one week prior to the session. (*Note: most sessions require signing up ahead of time; drop-ins are not permitted).
November 5 @ 6:45pm, Multipurpose room – UBC (all Grade 11 & 12 students and their parents; no need to sign up*)
November 19 @ 1:40pm, Library – University of Alberta
November 21 @ 11:30am, Library – Western University (no sign up)
November 21 @12:30pm, Library – McGill University

OTHER IMPORTANT DATES:
*November 19, 5:00 – 8:00pm – BCIT’s BIG INFO SESSION. This is a chance for Grade 11 and 12 students and parents to learn more about the 400+ programs offered at BCIT. No sign up is required.
*November 20 @ 6:45pm – Moscrop is hosting PSI Day (Post Secondary Institutions event). This is a great opportunity for Grade 11 & 12 students to meet with representatives and get information from most of our local colleges and universities (e.g. SFU, Capilano University, BCIT, Douglas College, Langara College). You do not need to sign up for this event.
*November 22, 2014: Grade 12 students interested in applying to University of Alberta are invited to take part in the UAlberta Application Workshop at the Four Seasons Hotel, 791 West Georgia St, Vancouver. During this workshop, UAlberta staff will advise students and their families on the application process and help them complete and submit an online Application for Admission. To register online go to: ualberta.ca/recruitmentevents (under the Vancouver heading). Registration deadline is Nov. 19.

ATTENTION GRADE 12’s: Do you speak both French and English fluently? Are you interested in attending a university in the Ottawa area? If so, the House of Commons Page Program may be for you! House of Commons Pages are selected from high schools across Canada every year. These students work in the House of Commons as a page for one full year (e.g. August 2015 to August 2016) while studying at a university in the Ottawa area. If you are interested in this program or have more questions, please see your counsellor or visit www.parl.gc.ca/hocpage . This year’s deadline for application is December 8, 2014.

The Student Certification Branch has developed the BC Dogwood Planner, an annual document published in January for students in Grade 12. The BC Dogwood Planner is a companion document of the Grad Planner addressing the top questions from students in their graduation year.
