Justice Institute of B.C. – Open House on February 27, 2015

Interested in a career in public safety (e.g. Law Enforcement, Firefighting, Paramedics, Conflict Resolution or in the Armed Forces?)  If so, this open house is for you!  February 27th  (10:00am – 2:00pm )  715 McBride Blvd, New Westminster          

Pre-registration is not needed.  Learn how JIBC programs can prepare you for a career in public safety.  Widely acknowledged as Canada’s leading public safety educator, JIBC is a public post-secondary institution that offers innovative education and training in the fields of policing, firefighting, paramedicine, corrections, emergency management, leadership, conflict resolution and other related disciplines.  JIBC programs are focused on applied learning and their expert faculty are active in their professional fields.

What you can expect:

  • Visit one of the many exhibitor tables in the gymnasium between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Learn about the JIBC programs available in law enforcement, paramedicine, fire safety, conflict resolution, leadership and more
  • You will also have the opportunity to speak with recruiters
  • Watch one of our presentations taking place in the Theatre & Simulation Building
  • Take a campus tour. Tours will take place every 30 mins. Guests will meet in the Atrium.

The Justice Institute of B.C. is hosting a Fire & Safety Division Information Session on Saturday, January 24, 2015, 1pm – 3pm at the Justice Institute  (715 McBride Blvd, New Westminster,  604-525-5422)

  • Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services Recruitment Division will discuss the training involved to become a firefighter and the necessary steps it takes to be hired by a career Fire Department.
  • Learn about the new Fire Fighting Technologies Certificate program.
  • Tour the Maple Ridge Campus and see its unique simulation training props.
  • Meet faculty and staff.

UBC APPLICATION DEADLINE APPROACHING – JANUARY 31, 2015

Grade 12 Students who are applying to SFU

Mark your calendars!  A representative from SFU will be visiting Moscrop on Monday, February 2nd at lunch in the library. This presentation is for all Grade 12 students who have applied to SFU (regardless of faculty).  The next steps in the application process will be discussed:  self-reporting grades, understanding the application checklist, when to anticipate an admissions offer, and a brief overview of scholarships and financial aid.  There will be time for questions at the end.

University of Toronto – Youth Summer Programs 2015

The University of Toronto’s Youth Summer Programs (YSP) offer high school students a glimpse into the life of a university student at Canada’s top Medical or Law Schools.  The YSP provides access to the University’s distinguished academic and research professionals who lead “hands-on” academic programming.  The Law YSP allows students to discuss advanced legal concepts and apply them in a variety of stimulating environments within the reality of the Canadian Legal System, while the Med YSP showcases the opportunities available in the realm of medicine and medical research.  The YSP takes place in the July and August each summer at the downtown St. George campus, and range in length from one to six weeks.  For more information visit:  www.ysp.utoronto.ca.

B.C. Dogwood Planner

The Student Certification Branch has published the BC Dogwood Planner 2015, an annual document published in January for students in Grade 12.  The BC Dogwood Planner is a companion document of the Grad Planner addressing the top questions from students in their graduation year.

The French version of the BC Dogwood Planner 2015 has also been posted.

Attention Grade 11 & 12 students interested in studying Applied Sciences:

SFU will be making a presentation at Moscrop to talk to students interested in studying Applied Sciences (Computer Science and/or Engineering).  This presentation will take place on Thursday, January 29th at lunch time.  If you would like to attend this presentation, you must sign up on the Student Services bulletin board (room 317) by Jan. 21.
