An Introduction to the Ivy League + Stanford is a presentation for all students and parents interested in learning about the process of applying to ivy leagues universities in the U.S. This presentation will take place on Tuesday, October 17 @ 7:00pm at Saint Georges School, 4175 West 29th Ave, Vancouver. GRADE 12 STUDENTS:  Have you applied yet for college?  If not, you should know that most colleges are open for online application in October.  In fact, Langara and Douglas College open on October 1 for applications for September 2018.  Colleges operate on a “First Come – First Served” basis, so early application is very important.  Applying early means you secure an earlier course registration date in June.  Even if you plan to attend university it is a good idea to apply to one college this fall as a back up to your university application.  Any questions, please see your counsellor.

It’s an exciting time of year for senior students who are considering options for themselves after graduation. Did you know that Burnaby CCE offers diploma programs similar to those offered at colleges such as Vancouver Community College, Douglas College, Langara College, etc.  Burnaby CCE programs are recognized by regulatory bodies, associations and employers.  95% of grads find employment in the field within 6 months of graduation.

If so, you are invited to an information evening at UBC on Wednesday, June 14^th in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Building, Vancouver Campus. This is a great session for grade 12s who are starting to register for first-year courses and have questions about the admission requirements for the Entry-to-Practice PharmD program. Vancouver’s largest university fair is for students in grade 9-11. Advisors from 200 universities will be on hand to present on topics such as admissions to Canadian, US and UK institutions, as well as program offerings, tuition fees, scholarships, standardized testing, and medical school admission. April 11th is KPU’s Major Entrance Scholarship Deadline. Major Entrance Scholarships go up to $20,000, and students only have to apply once to be considered for all KPU entrance awards. More information can be found online at ca/awards. 

April 5th is Surrey Parent Night: KPU will be hosting an evening for parents from 5:30-7:30 at the Surrey campus. The event will include tours, a general KPU presentation, as well as a panel discussion that includes a current student, a parent, and a co-op employer. Parents can register online at ca/parentnight.

UPDATE 1 – Financial Aid:  Applications for our Entrance Scholarships are open now!  

• Deadline to submit application is April 1^st 
• Deadline to submit all supporting documents is April 7^th
• Once the student is admitted and has a student # they can access the application through My Account – Financial Aid – Award Applications – Entrance Awards Application
• The student only needs to submit one application in order to be assessed for every award that they may be eligible for

 UPDATE 2 – Nursing:  There are a limited number of designated seats in the Academic Foundations for Potential Nursing Applicants program.

 UPDATE 3 – Psychiatric Nursing:  A limited number of seats in the Academic Foundations for Potential Psychiatric Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing programs are designated for Aboriginal applicants who self-identify as Aboriginal, meet the academic and the final admission requirements. Aboriginal applicants must contact Dave Seaweed, Aboriginal Coordinator, at 604-527-5565 or Tanya Joostema, Aboriginal Student Advisor, at 604-777-6188 if interested in being considered for a designated seat in the AFPN or the BSPN program. 

 HAVEN’T YET APPLIED TO DOUGLAS? IT’S NOT TOO LATE! Seats are still available in open enrollment programs such as General Studies. As always, the simplified admissions process means you need to:

1. Graduate from high school
2. Have a C or higher in English 12, or B or higher in Communications 

UofA is coming to Vancouver on Saturday, April 1st and students who have been accepted to the university are invited to a Registration 101 session. Students must accept their offer of admission to attend. At the session, students will learn to navigate Bear Tracks, build a draft schedule, get advice on course selection for the first year of university, and meet fellow incoming first-year students. UAlberta Advisors will also be on hand to answer all questions. Limited spots are available. Students can register at uab.ca/reg101

If you’re interested in learning more about the programs offered at  B.C.I.T., this is a great opportunity and you won’t want to miss it!  B.C.I.T. has more than 400 programs in the areas of technology, trades, business, computers and sciences. This open house will take place at the Burnaby Campus and all students and parents are welcome to attend.
