BCSSA Grade 12 Scholarship

Criteria

The British Columbia School Superintendents Association will award six regional scholarships to students planning to pursue post-secondary studies. Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship must be currently enrolled in their final year of studies at a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected to graduate in June 2022. One winner will be chosen from each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters (Fraser Valley, Kootenay-Boundary, Metro, Vancouver Island, Northern, Thompson-Okanagan).

• One-page description of how you have made a difference in the life or lives of other (450 words maximum)
• Two letters of reference
• Demonstrated distinctive leadership by providing two examples, including a brief description, this can include an inspirational artifact, a short video, newsletter, photo, story, or other media.
• Copy of the official school transcript of your grades to date

Rotary Club of Burnaby – Deer Lake Community Leadership Scholarship

Criteria

This scholarship is awarded annually to a well-rounded student who has demonstrated strong citizenship and leadership skills as demonstrated through voluntary participation in community and school activities. The scholarship shall be applicable towards postsecondary education or trades training at any approved institution.

To be considered for this scholarship, applicant students should have:
➢ demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills.
➢ been actively involved in community service and / or volunteer work.
➢ been actively involved in youth initiatives, activities and events in the Burnaby
community.
➢ been actively involved in school-based activities; and
➢ actively pursuing relevant school coursework.

Value

A scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a Senior Secondary student in the Burnaby School District. Funds will be administered through the Rotary Club of Burnaby – Deer Lake.

Bosa Construction Legacy Scholarship

Criteria

Bosa Construction is looking to award 4 high school students the opportunity to pursue their Carpentry Apprenticeship through BCIT’s top-rated program while working under the guaranteed sponsorship of Bosa Construction.

  • Must be a current grade 12 student residing in the Greater Vancouver area (Metro Vancouver)
  • Must have a SkilledTradesBC ID number (create your ID number here at SkilledTrades BC)
  • Must have a BCIT ID number (create one HERE if you do not have one already)
  • Must submit Resume for review
  • Must complete all required question fields (in application)
  • Must submit completed application within the official application window

Review Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed the first 2 weeks of May 2024
  • Short-listed applicants will be contacted to set up an in-person interview

Jayson Maclean Memorial Bursary

Criteria

Jayson enjoyed mentoring young students who had a love for Theatre. He wanted them to reach their potential and success in their lives through the Arts, just as he did.  To commemorate Jayson’s dedication to the Arts in his life, we are establishing a Bursary in his name for future Arts students in the Burnaby School District (41), who are pursuing their artistic passions in life.

Parkcrest Children’s Centre Scholarship

Criteria

The scholarship is awarded to a past student of Parkcrest Children’s Centre who is a well-rounded student who, while maintaining a good academic standing, has participated in school and community activities.

To be considered for the award the student must have:

  •  proof of attendance at Parkcrest Childcare Society (Parkcrest Children’s Centre) for a period of at least one year
  • been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two (2) senior years
  • provided evidence of volunteer or work experience, including letters of reference attesting to the student’s work ethic
  • been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work
  • demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills
  • maintained a good academic standing

Note: The scholarship monies will be paid to the recipient upon proof of registration in a post secondary institution. The recipient must be registered in a post secondary institution within 18 months of their secondary school graduation or the award will expire.

Value

FUNDS are to be determined to  one Burnaby Student who meets the above criteria. Must provide proof of supporting documents and other pertinent information. This is scholarship hasn’t been confirmed so apply at your own risk!

Ted Elphick Bursary

Criteria

In recognition and memory of Ted Elphick, a dedicated educator whose leadership and contribution to the education of challenged students provided a professional legacy for which the Burnaby School District can be proud and thankful.

The Ted Elphick Memorial bursary is awarded annually to a Burnaby resident who has, through positive will and spirit, overcome physical or mental challenges to graduate from a Burnaby secondary school. To be considered for the bursary the student should have:

  • been enrolled in a Burnaby school for five years
  • demonstrated ability and a desire to be a life long learner and continue his or her education at a post secondary institution or in a recognized training program

Spirit of BC – Athletics

Criteria

This scholarship is provided as a result of a legacy fund resulting from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.  Three amounts of $1000 each will be awarded to well-rounded students who, while maintaining a good academic standing, have demonstrated a passion for athletics, visual arts – drawing and painting, sculpture, animation or performing arts – drama, music, dance and haves demonstrated good citizenship through voluntary participation in school or community activities.

To be considered for the award the student should: 

  •  be passionate about athletics 
  •  for athletics – involved in school or community as a player, manager or other   contributing role  
  •  have demonstrated having a positive influence in the school or community through community service or volunteer work and through dedication and hard work 
  • exemplify good citizenship and strong character and demonstrating personal responsibility and respect for others 
  • maintained a good academic standing  
  • demonstrated plans to continue with education in a post-secondary program 
  • formally submitted a completed application package to the school’s scholarship committee 

The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post-secondary institution (tuition receipt is required).

  2. Letter for Athletics, from a coach indicating any special contribution to the team and the candidate’s character with specific reference to the criteria of the application
  3. Letter from a teacher or community leader indicating the candidate’s character with specific reference to the criteria of the application
  4. Letter from the candidate indicating post secondary goals including any continued involvement in athletics, visual or performing arts and addressing the question “How has athletics played an important role in your life?”

Singh Excavating BC Scholarship

Criteria

We are looking for a student that is in need of financial assistance, gives back to their community as a volunteer, is engaged as a student, and has plans to move on to college, university or trades based education.

Granly Legacy Fund Scholarship

Criteria

The scholarships are open to any student in one of those schools and who meets the following eligibility criteria: 

  1. a) A permanent residence status in Canada
    b) Attended one of the eight high schools for their grade 12 year and is a well rounded student in need of financial assistance to further their education or learning a skill.
    c) Registered at an accredited post-secondary educational institution in Canada.
    d) Must be a kind-spirited individual with a good academic standing and have  demonstrated interest in community volunteering opportunities.
