Singh Excavating BC Scholarship

Criteria

We are looking for a student that is in need of financial assistance, gives back to their community as a volunteer, is engaged as a student, and has plans to move on to college, university or trades based education.

Granly Legacy Fund Scholarship

Criteria

The scholarships are open to any student in one of those schools and who meets the following eligibility criteria: 

  1. a) A permanent residence status in Canada
    b) Attended one of the eight high schools for their grade 12 year and is a well rounded student in need of financial assistance to further their education or learning a skill.
    c) Registered at an accredited post-secondary educational institution in Canada.
    d) Must be a kind-spirited individual with a good academic standing and have  demonstrated interest in community volunteering opportunities.

BC Hydro Power Pioneers Community Service Award

Criteria

The BC Hydro Power Pioneers are recognizing youth who have excelled in community service. There are up to twenty $500 awards available throughout British Columbia.

We’re looking for students who have made outstanding contributions in their local community for a considerable amount of time or have initiated, organized or contributed significantly to a one-time project.

Priority will be given to students who volunteer in their local communities.

BY MAIL March 31, 2024.

BC Hydro Power Pioneers Community Service Award,
333 Dunsmuir Street, 15th Floor, Vancouver, B.C., V6B 5R3.

Procedure

The following information must be included with your application to be considered for this award:

  1. Completed application form (link below),
  2. 500 word essay of voluntary contributions you have made to your community,
  3. Reference letter(s) from the community organization(s) you have worked with,
  4. Reference letter from a teacher, counsellor or principal at your school,
  5. Confirmation of a passing grade,
  6. Proof of age and citizenship or status.

Please fill in, print and attach all the required information and mail in before the deadline of March 31.

Your application must be postmarked no later than March 31.  Mail in early to avoid missing the deadline.

Burnaby Art Council Scholarship

Criteria

The Burnaby Arts Council is offering one ARTS scholarship to a graduating student in each of Burnaby’s eight secondary schools.

Applicants must:
a) demonstrate excellence and achievement in the arts (performing, visual or literary) in school curricular and extra-curricular programs and the motivation to develop their ability. Additional consideration will be given for community involvement.
b) exhibit a good academic record with letters of commendation.
c) be continuing with their education in a full-time accredited post-secondary program, with a concentration in the arts, leading to a professional status in theatre, dance, visual arts, creative writing or music.
d) consideration may be given to students with financial need. The Burnaby Arts Council reserves the right to grant scholarships only if suitable candidates are found.

Burnaby South War Memorial Scholarship

Criteria

In recognition and memory of the young men and women from Burnaby who fought for Canada in World War II.

The Burnaby South War Memorial bursaries are awarded annually to two deserving Burnaby secondary school graduates who have continually demonstrated the values associated with good citizenship – caring, sharing, responsibility and a willingness to help others.

· application form (or a computer-generated replica allowing you more space to respond)

· statement explaining your need for financial assistance – Burnaby South War Memorial Bursary only.

· resume – these awards emphasize service to the school and community so focus on these areas in your resume.

· copy of both your grade 11 & 12 transcripts (request one from ).

· MINIMUM of two reference letters that support your community and school service. This is a crucial part of your application and MUST be included. If you state volunteer activities in your application, make every effort to include some documentation in the form of a letter, certificate, etc. to provide evidence of your involvement as well as the duration of your involvement.

BCCPAC Educational Award

Criteria

The award is open to any Grade 12 student attending a BCCPAC-member school  (WE ARE MEMBERS!) who is planning to pursue post-secondary studies (academic, vocational, technical or training). The award honours a well-rounded student who is involved and interested in many things and has an understanding of the importance of parent involvement in education.

Procedure

Will need to include:

  • A cover letter outlining good citizenship, leadership, sportsmanship and community service interests.
  • Two letters of reference; one from an educator and one from a community member (not a relative).
  • Grade 11 and Grade 12 transcripts to date (must confirm current year enrollment – recommended: school transcript of grades or BC Diploma Verification).
  • An essay (300-500 words) on the value of parent involvement in education (with reference to the role of PACs, DPACs and/or BCCPAC.)

Rotary Club of Burnaby Bursary Award

Criteria

The Rotary Club of Burnaby – Bursary Award is awarded to one student in each of Burnaby’s secondary schools who meets the following criteria:

The bursary will be awarded to a student who:
▪ has maintained a good academic standing
▪ has demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership in school and the community
▪ has participated in community service and volunteer work in the community
▪ demonstrates financial need.

The bursary will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary or vocational training program.

Value

One bursary in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a BNSS student.

Jean Ip Scholarship Foundation

Criteria

This scholarship is intended to provide support to a student who (i.) demonstrates contribution to their community and (ii.) is graduating Grade 12. Preference will be given to applicants who have had to overcome adversity in the pursuit of their education and who have demonstrated leadership qualities. The scholarship is awarded based on the recommendation of the Board committee from the participating Lower Mainland School Districts. The award is not dependent on Grade Point Average (GPA).

Dr. & Mrs. A. H. Pontifex Scholarship

Criteria

The Dr. & Mrs. A. H. Pontifex Scholarship Award is awarded to a well-rounded student who excels in Science and has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills through voluntary participation in school and community activities.

The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student from an SD41 – Burnaby secondary school who:

  • has maintained a good academic standing
  •  has taken a concentration of, and excelled in, courses in the field of Science
  • has demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership in school and the community
  • has participated in community service and volunteer work in the community
  • has demonstrated a passion for, and interest in, pursuing a career in Science

The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary program focused in the field of Science.

Value

One scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to a graduate from one of SD41 – Burnaby’s eight secondary schools.

Interworld Development Scholarship

Criteria

Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence and achievement in a Youth Train in Trades and Youth Work in Trades program and meets the following eligibility criteria.

To be considered for the award the student must have

  • successfully completed a Youth Train in Trades and Youth Work in Trades program in the Burnaby School District with a high level of effort, determination and integrity
  • successfully completed 120 hours industry-recognized work experience
  • demonstrated a high level of motivation to continue to develop skills and abilities in the chosen profession
  • demonstrated plans to continue in studies in the chosen field at post-secondary or apprenticeship training
  • been nominated for the award by a Youth Train in Trades or Youth Work in Trades program teacher

Consideration is to be given to a student with financial need. The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary or apprenticeship trades training program.

Value

$1000 will be awarded to a graduating student from BNSS who meets the above eligibility criteria.
