Dawn Harris Memorial Scholarship

Criteria

The scholarship is awarded to a well-rounded female graduating student from Alpha or Burnaby North Secondary School who, while maintaining a good academic standing, has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills and has actively participated in the school’s athletic program.

To be considered for the award the student should have:
▪ been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two (2) senior years
▪ maintained a good academic standing
▪ been involved in the school’s athletic program
▪ demonstrated outstanding citizenship and strong leadership skills in the school
▪ formally submitted an application form to the Dawn Harris Memorial Scholarship Committee
▪ demonstrated plans to continue with education in a post secondary program

The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary institution.

Value

One award in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded annually to a graduating student from Alpha OR Burnaby North Secondary School.

Rotary Club of Burnaby Bursary Award

Criteria

The Rotary Club of Burnaby – Bursary Award is awarded to one student in each of Burnaby’s secondary schools who meets the following criteria:

The bursary will be awarded to a student who:
▪ has maintained a good academic standing
▪ has demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership in school and the community
▪ has participated in community service and volunteer work in the community
▪ demonstrates financial need.

The bursary will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary or vocational training program.

Value

One bursary in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a BNSS student.

Jayson McLean Memorial Bursary

Criteria

Jayson enjoyed mentoring young students who had a love for Theatre. He wanted them to reach their potential and success in their lives through the Arts, just as he did.  To commemorate Jayson’s dedication to the Arts in his life, we are establishing a Bursary in his name for future Arts students in the Burnaby School District (41), who are pursuing their artistic passions in life.

Intended for students in Theatrical Arts, looking to continue study in post-secondary in a Theatrical Arts related field.

Spirit of BC – Visual Arts

Criteria

This scholarship is provided as a result of a legacy fund resulting from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.  Three amounts of $1000 each will be awarded to well-rounded students who, while maintaining a good academic standing, have demonstrated a passion for athletics, visual arts – drawing and painting, sculpture, animation or performing arts – drama, music, dance and haves demonstrated good citizenship through voluntary participation in school or community activities.

To be considered for the award the student should: 

  •  be passionate about visual arts
  • for performing arts – involved in school or community as a performer or a supporting role   
  • have demonstrated having a positive influence in the school or community through community service or volunteer work and through dedication and hard work
  •  exemplify good citizenship and strong character and demonstrating personal responsibility and respect for others 
  • maintained a good academic standing  demonstrated plans to continue with education in a post-secondary  

The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post-secondary institution (tuition receipt is required).

Burnaby Art Council Scholarship

Criteria

The Burnaby Arts Council is offering one ARTS scholarship to a graduating student in each of Burnaby’s eight secondary schools.

Applicants must:
a) demonstrate excellence and achievement in the arts (performing, visual or literary) in school curricular and extra-curricular programs and the motivation to develop their ability. Additional consideration will be given for community involvement.
b) exhibit a good academic record with letters of commendation.
c) be continuing with their education in a full-time accredited post-secondary program, with a concentration in the arts, leading to a professional status in theatre, dance, visual arts, creative writing or music.
d) consideration may be given to students with financial need. The Burnaby Arts Council reserves the right to grant scholarships only if suitable candidates are found.

Burnaby South War Memorial Scholarship

Criteria

In recognition and memory of the young men and women from Burnaby who fought for Canada in World War II.

The Burnaby South War Memorial bursaries are awarded annually to two deserving Burnaby secondary school graduates who have continually demonstrated the values associated with good citizenship – caring, sharing, responsibility and a willingness to help others.

Value

1 x  $950 for a Burnaby student

Dr. & Mrs. A. H. Pontifex Scholarship

Criteria

The Dr. & Mrs. A. H. Pontifex Scholarship Award is awarded to a well-rounded student who excels in Science and has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills through voluntary participation in school and community activities.

The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student from an SD41 – Burnaby secondary school who:

  • has maintained a good academic standing
  •  has taken a concentration of, and excelled in, courses in the field of Science
  • has demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership in school and the community
  • has participated in community service and volunteer work in the community
  • has demonstrated a passion for, and interest in, pursuing a career in Science

The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary program focused in the field of Science.

Value

One scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to a graduate from one of SD41 – Burnaby’s eight secondary schools.

Parkcrest Children’s Centre Scholarship

Criteria

The scholarship is awarded to a past student of Parkcrest Children’s Centre who is a well-rounded student who, while maintaining a good academic standing, has participated in school and community activities.

To be considered for the award the student must have:

  •  proof of attendance at Parkcrest Childcare Society (Parkcrest Children’s Centre) for a period of at least one year
  • been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two (2) senior years
  • provided evidence of volunteer or work experience, including letters of reference attesting to the student’s work ethic
  • been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work
  • demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills
  • maintained a good academic standing

Note: The scholarship monies will be paid to the recipient upon proof of registration in a post secondary institution. The recipient must be registered in a post secondary institution within 18 months of their secondary school graduation or the award will expire.

FUNDS are to be determined to  one Burnaby Student who meets the above criteria. Must provide proof of supporting documents and other pertinent information. This is scholarship hasn’t been confirmed so apply at your own risk!

Criteria

We are looking for a student that is in need of financial assistance, gives back to their community as a volunteer, is engaged as a student, and has plans to move on to college, university or trades based education.

Interworld Development Scholarship

Criteria

Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence and achievement in a Youth Train in Trades and Youth Work in Trades program and meets the following eligibility criteria.

To be considered for the award the student must have

  • successfully completed a Youth Train in Trades and Youth Work in Trades program in the Burnaby School District with a high level of effort, determination and integrity
  • successfully completed 120 hours industry-recognized work experience
  • demonstrated a high level of motivation to continue to develop skills and abilities in the chosen profession
  • demonstrated plans to continue in studies in the chosen field at post-secondary or apprenticeship training
  • been nominated for the award by a Youth Train in Trades or Youth Work in Trades program teacher

Consideration is to be given to a student with financial need. The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary or apprenticeship trades training program.

Value

$1000 will be awarded to a graduating student from BNSS who meets the above eligibility criteria.

Marlene Larson Scholarship

Criteria

Marlene Larson was invited to establish the Itinerant Program for Blind and Visually Impaired Students in 1976.  This scholarship was presented to her upon her retirement in 2010.  The purpose of this scholarship is to provide post-secondary assistance to Burnaby students who are blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind. 

The Marlene Larson Scholarship is awarded to a Burnaby graduate who is blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind.   

To be considered for the scholarship the student should: 

  • be planning on enrolling in a post- secondary programs
  • demonstrate ability to set goals; be motivated; show responsibility
  • be oriented towards independence

Proof of visual impairment in the form of a letter from the student’s eye care specialist, CNIB or their vision teacher is required.  

Scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post- secondary program.

Jean Ip DISTRICT Scholarship

Criteria

Starting in 2024, the Jean Ip Foundation’s Scholarship Program offers financial assistance to eligible individuals pursuing post-secondary education in Canada. The program provides several scholarships including the following five to Burnaby District students. Applicant must demonstrate financial need.

Procedure

Submit all of the following, in order, as either a single PDF (check FAQ’s for help) or in paper to Ms. Mihic in Student Services by the due date.

3) Two (2) letters of reference
4) Transcript of grades for grade 11 and 12 courses

Note: if selected, you will need to provide a media release form to publish a graduating photograph for their website. You will also be asked to provide your Social Insurance Number for tax purposes.

CUPE Local 23 Scholarship

Criteria

The CUPE Local 23 scholarship is awarded to one student in each of Burnaby’s secondary schools who meets the following criteria:

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has:
▪ Maintained a good academic standing
▪ Demonstrated good citizenship in school and the community
▪ Participated in volunteer activities

Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is going on to a BC post secondaryor vocational training program. Consideration should be given to a student with financial need.

BEES (x3) Scholarships

Criteria

The Burnaby Exempt Employees Society (BEES) is pleased to be awarding three
scholarships in 2026 to students graduating from a high school in School District #41
(Burnaby) who demonstrate diverse strengths, achievements, and contributions to their
community and who meet the following criteria:

  1. BEES Community Leader Scholarship – One (1) scholarship in the amount of $2000
    each will be awarded to students who have:
    Been actively involved in the community, whether it be through volunteering or work experience or other contributions beyond what is required for graduation reflecting their
    unique skills or efforts to support their community; and
        • Demonstrated leadership in Burnaby through consistent and outstanding dedication to a
          community initiative, making their community a better place or creating a positive impact
          within their community.BEES Community Leader Scholarship – One (1) scholarship in the amount of $2000
    1. The Chad Turpin Scholarship – One (1) scholarship in the amount of $2000 will be
      awarded to a student who:Maintained a good academic standing.
      • Is interested in pursuing a career in public administration, public policy or public service
      in general; and
      • Has a need for financial assistance to pursue their education, for example, a student that
      must secure employment while attending school.
    2. BEES Trades, or Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (“STEAM”)
      Scholarship – One (1) scholarship in the amount $2000 will be awarded to a student who:
      • Is interested in pursuing a career in Trades or STEAM.
      • Been actively involved in the community, whether it be through volunteering or work
      experience or other contributions beyond what is required for graduation reflecting their
      unique skills or efforts to support their community; and
      • Has a need for financial assistance to pursue their education, for example, a student that
      must secure employment while attending school.

All three of these scholarships will be awarded to students who are furthering their
education at an accredited BC post-secondary college or university or attending a
vocational training program at a designated post-secondary technical, trades or vocational
institution. The recipient will be required to provide proof of enrollment in a qualified
program to receive the scholarship payment.

Criteria

Are you interested in pursuing a career in construction? Do you have anything to date showing an interest in the field such as a Youth in Trade completion or work experience? Are you graduating in June 2026?

Criteria

The scholarships are open to any student in one of those schools and who meets the following eligibility criteria:

a) A permanent residence status in Canada

b) Attended one of the eight high schools for their grade 12 year and is a well rounded student in need of financial assistance to further their education or learning a skill

c)Registered at an accredited post-secondary educational institution in Canada.

d) Must be a kind-spirited individual with a good academic standing and have  demonstrated interest in community volunteering opportunities.

BEEM Credit Union

Criteria

Young adults are the face of our future and at Gulf & Fraser, we have made a commitment to support their quest for higher education. Annually, we award several scholarships and bursaries to students in our communities.

Preference will be given to students who are members of Gulf & Fraser or who have family who are members; however, all students are eligible to apply if they are in good academic standing and those who demonstrate financial need.

*One award is for a qualified candidate who identifies as an individual of Indigenous ancestry. Should there not be a qualified candidate that fits the criteria, the award will be extended to all students who fulfill the requirements, but who are not of Indigenous ancestry.

Criteria

The Burnaby Parkland Refinery is offering a scholarship to each of the Burnaby secondary graduates. Students must demonstrate good to excellent academic standing, school and/or community involvement,  and will be attending post-secondary in one of the following areas.

Criteria

The scholarship is awarded to a student who, while maintaining a good academic standing has made a significant contribution to the school by demonstrating good citizenship and involvement in school activities.

To be considered for the scholarship the student should have:
• Demonstrated good citizenship
• Been actively involved in school service
• Maintained a good academic standing

The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary program at BCIT. Students must claim the award within two (2) years of graduating from secondary school. Consideration will be given to student with financial need.

Value

$200 for one Burnaby North student that meets above criteria.

BCIT Pathways to Success Awards

Criteria

Students must have applied to a full time first year technology, technical studies, or trade program (excluding Apprentice) and have a BCIT student number before being considered for an award. Selection is based on demonstrated leadership skills and/or additional responsibilities. Examples are: Leadership training/courses, volunteer and/or community service, work experience, captain/president of sports team or group, involvement in extracurricular activities, plays a major role in supporting their family, financially or otherwise

2026 BCIT application pathway

Lotus Light Charity Society Scholarship

Criteria

Any Canadian student who is 17 years or older and will start or continue their studies at a
recognized post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis may apply for the Lotus
Light Charity Scholarship to assist in their studies. Applicants will be assessed on scholastic
excellence and community volunteer involvement.

Criteria

This scholarship is awarded annually to a well-rounded student who has demonstrated strong citizenship and leadership skills as demonstrated through voluntary participation in community and school activities. The scholarship shall be applicable towards postsecondary education or trades training at any approved institution.

To be considered for this scholarship, applicant students should have:
➢ demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills.
➢ been actively involved in community service and / or volunteer work.
➢ been actively involved in youth initiatives, activities and events in the Burnaby
community.
➢ been actively involved in school-based activities; and
➢ actively pursuing relevant school coursework.

Value

A scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a Senior Secondary student in the Burnaby School District. Funds will be administered through the Rotary Club of Burnaby – Deer Lake.

Alpha Gamma Delta UBC Entrance Award

The Alpha Gamma Delta UBC Entrance Award is  for an outstanding all-round female secondary school graduate entering the University of British Columbia – Vancouver in September 2025. Selection Criteria
Identifying young women with the potential to lead for a lifetime means getting to know students beyond their academic achievements. The selection process for the Alpha Gamma Delta UBC Entrance Award seeks those who share our values:
1. the pursuit of wisdom
2. developing and prizing health and vigour of body
3. contributing to the world’s work in the communities where we are placed
4. holding truth inviolable, sincerity essential, kindness invaluable
5. possessing high ideals and working to attain them

Conditions of Eligibility
Applicants must:
1. identify as a woman
2. have applied to UBC – Vancouver with the intent to enter their first year of study in September 2026

While we hope applicants will consider joining a sorority at UBC, neither participation in recruitment nor membership in any sorority is a requirement of this award. No applicant, including the recipient, will be given any preference in membership selection during UBC Sororities Recruitment.

Shashi Assanand Bursary

Criteria

Open to female students in the Metro Vancouver schools who are completing grade 12 and are children of refugees or immigrants to Canada.

· Applicants must be interested in pursuing a career in social work, education, psychology, nursing or social service and possess academic grades sufficient to allow admission into their chosen area of study/educational facility and demonstrate financial need.

· 500 word write-up about your individual and family experiences in Canadian life, how you impacted the lives of others in the community and your plans for the future.

· Applicants must submit 2 reference letters one from a school official and the other from a community member representing a community-based organization that highlight the applicant’s transition into the life in Canada, aspirations and career goals for the future.

Criteria

South Burnaby Metro Club (SBMC) awards 3 – $1,000 Bursaries each year, one from each of our sports divisions: baseball, basketball and soccer.  Youth needs to have played the sport for at least 3 years to qualify.  The bursary is NOT based on financial need.

BCPVPA Scholarships

Criteria

Recognizing academic achievement & school or community leadership

Each year, the BCPVPA awards scholarships to up to 20 students who are graduating from the BC public school system and proceeding to post-secondary education. The successful applicants will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 each. The BCPVPA offers this opportunity in the spring, to align with graduation and other scholarship application timelines. All applicants will be judged on excellent achievement in courses taken and demonstrated leadership within the school and community.

Applicants who are pursuing education in trades, technical, and career fields, as well as those entering universities and colleges, are encouraged to apply.

• Up to 10 scholarships are reserved for the children of BCPVPA (Principals and Vide Principals) members.

• Up to 8 scholarships are awarded to other graduating students.

• Up to 2 scholarships are awarded to Indigenous students.

Please encourage any potential applicants to apply. The deadline is March 16, 2026.
