Cmolik Scholarship

Criteria

Founded in 2008, The Cmolik Foundation helps students across BC access educational opportunities that shape their career aspirations and possibilities with the support of dedicated educators, mentors, sponsors and volunteers. Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a current resident of BC
  • Have lived in Canada for at least 7 years
  • Be in Grade 12 or a recent secondary school graduate
  • Have demonstrated financial need
  • Have faced adversity
  • Plan to be a full-time student
  • Be ineligible for the BC Tuition Waiver Program (for former youth in care)
  • Use funding for a post-secondary institution or college
  • Be endorsed by their school principal (this is done through Ms. Mihic)

Due Date

written response to Ms. Mihic in Student Services by January 21, 2021 by 3pm (email or paper OK).

due online February 7th, 2021. Successful applicants will be notified in late March or early April.

Procedure

Part 1: Due MONDAY, JANUARY 29 by 3pm to Ms Mihic:

200-250 written response describing evidence of:

  •  adversity or hardship
  • good work ethic
  •  financial need
  •  leadership involvement

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award

Criteria

To be considered for the Award, applicants must meet be In good academic standing, Canadian citizens or landed immigrants., graduating from secondary (high) school , involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated), planning to or are already studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic standing and a standard of humanitarian work and personal conduct which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, justifies the award.

Value

up to $28,000 over 4 years.

Note: Recipients of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award may not receive more than $15,000 in total scholarships annually (including the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award). If a student’s awards exceed this amount, any excess will be deducted from the student’s Terry Fox Award.

“Applicants must provide three (3) referees and upload online an (un)official transcript detailing the applicant’s last two years of schooling (official transcripts, sealed by the issuing institution will be requested from applicants who are selected for an interview). Referees will be emailed a link requesting they complete an online Referee Form on behalf of the applicant.”

Queen’s University Awards

Chancellor’s Scholarship

*We can nominate ONE OR TWO Burnaby North students.*

Criteria:

Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada who has applied for, or is in the process of applying for, admission to Queen’s University to be eligible for this award.  Excellent academic ability (90%+), demonstrated leadership and creativity, involvement in school and community activities.  Requires nomination from the school.

Value:

Queen’s Financial Aid and Awards Profile, Major Admissions Awards, Commitment Scholars Awards, Principal’s Scholarship, – varied; up to $100,000 over 4 years

Chancellor’s Scholarship –   80 @ $40, 000-$100,000 over 4 years

Due Date:

For the Chancellor’s Award, you must express your interest and completed requirements in Procedure below to Ms. Mihic or email her at dragana.mihic@burnabyschools.ca before FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1ST @ 3:30 PM.

Note: The application is submitted only after you have applied to Queen’s and have set up a SOLUS account at https://www.queensu.ca/studentawards/admission-awards/major-admission-awards. Make sure you meet the criteria and have filled a Student Profile to be considered for the school nomination before FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1ST . Application and additional criteria must be received by December 8th at Queen’s University. Additional info below.

 

 

Post-Secondary Entrance Scholarships

Most post-secondary institutions offer some sort of entrance scholarship. For most institutions, all you need to do is apply to the institution; however, read through instructions carefully to see if you need to supply “extras” to be considered for a scholarship. Most institutions do not announce scholarship winners until late in the spring . Check out the list of institutions that have applications now open:

UBC – offers the Presidential Scholars Award (formerly Major Entrance Scholarship) of  a one-time award of approximately $5,000, and renewable awards of up to $80,000 payable over four years. Apply by December 1

SFU – open to domestic and international students and valued  from $10,000 up to an amount sufficient to cover tuition and mandatory supplementary fees. Initial application due December 15th; supporting documents and references due by January 31st. Recipients will be notified from mid-March to mid-May 2024.

BCIT – offers range from $1.000-4,000. Most applications due April 15th.

University of the Fraser Valley – deadline to apply is March 10th. Check site for details.

Capilano University- deadline to apply is March 1st. Range in offers and criteria. Check site for details.

Douglas College – offers a variety of one-time scholarships or awards of up to $3,500, and renewable scholarships or awards of up to $20,000, payable over four years. Deadline to apply is March 1st.

Langara College – deadline to apply is December 15th.  Check site for details.

Kwantlen Polytechnique – TBA

OUT OF PROVINCE SCHOLARSHIPS

University of Toronto – entrance scholarship considerations are considered automatically with application. Check site for additional scholarships.

McGill  University – deadline to apply is January 21st.  Check site for details.

Waterloo University – entrance scholarship considerations are considered automatically with application. Check site for additional scholarships.

TD Scholarship for Community Leadership

CRITERIA

The TD Scholarship for Community Leadership awards students across Canada who are finishing high school, have demonstrated community leadership and have a minimum of 75% grade average (in grade 11). There is an essay writing component to this scholarship and has an opportunity to provide “extras” for consideration.

VALUE

multiple @  $70, 000 over 4 years ($10,000/yr for tuition; $7,500/yr for living expenses).

DUE DATE

Online by 10 am  November 15, 2023.

PROCEDURE

U of T Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship

Criteria

The international student nominee should be a creative thinker with an exceptional academic record, who demonstrates creativity, is recognized as a leader within our school, and exhibits the potential to contribute positively to the global community in the future. The candidate must intend to begin University of Toronto study in September 2024 and must be currently enrolled in full-time academic studies or have graduated no earlier than June 2024. Procedure:

Interested students must write a 200 word essay describing how they are a leader in our school and 200 words on how they are a creative thinker. Essays and a copy of your school transcript  must be handed into Ms. Mihic by email or in Student Services by November 17th.
