FLEX Time Workshop–Upcycled Book Holiday Trees

During Flex block on NOVEMBER 28TH & 29TH come learn how to make a tree out of old books. There are samples on the circulation desk.

Sign up on the Flex Time signup site for the location WORKSHOP LIBRARY. Make sure to fill in your Flex plan saying you’re doing the craft. If it doesn’t say that, your name will be taken off the list. We’ll probably need to use the time both Thursday and Friday to get it finished, so sign up for both. The WORKSHOP LIBRARY location is ONLY for people participating in the craft activity.

We supply everything you need to make the craft.

Max. 15 people in the workshop.

Library Club–Meeting Schedule

The second meetings of the year are Oct. 16-18.  Read below for the details for your committee.

If you signed up as a Shelver & Helper or a Circulation Desk assistant, your first meeting is Wed. Oct. 16th at lunch to get your schedule and sign-up for your training session.

Circulation Desk assistants will be trained during their shifts.

Shelvers & Helpers must attend ONE of the following training sessions:

  1. Wed. Oct. 16th at Lunch
  2. Thurs. Oct. 17th at Lunch
  3. Fri. Oct. 18th at Lunch

If you are unable to make those training dates you must speak with Ms Gladwin ASAP.  Shelvers cannot work a shift until they have been trained.  Training sessions count for service hours.

Decorators will meet Friday Oct. 18th after school to decide their regular meeting day and begin decorating for Hallowe’en.

Makerspace Leaders will meet with Ms Gladwin Thursday after school to help prep for the workshop in FLEX on Friday.  Later meeting times are negotiable.  Spaces still available.

Vikings Talk members please see Ms Gladwin or Ms Cowley by Oct. 18 to discuss Round 1 events.  Spaces still available.

Come Join Library Club–Oct. 3 at Lunch

 Interested in joining the Library Club? Read on.

The Library Club prides itself on being one of Burnaby North’s largest clubs. It is a great club to meet people and many of our members join year after year. Students are invited to attend an organizational meeting where they have the opportunity to help in one of six areas:

  • Shelvers & Helpers work before school, at lunch or after school on assigned days to ClubLogoSmallkeep the library organized and tidy.
  • Circulation Desk Monitors ensure the efficient circulation of library materials
  • Book Reviewers/Bloggers help to promote books and Library events by writing posts for the library blog, writing book reviews, or making new shelf talkers
  • Vikings Read members promote the Vikings Read selections and hold book club discussions for each of the titles
  • Makerspace Leaders help to plan and teach Makerspace Workshops, keep the Makerspace clean & tidy, and help Makers troubleshoot their projects
  • Decorators are students with an artistic flair who decorate the library, organise displays, and promote library events

Come down Thursday, October 3 at lunch to hear more. Attendance is mandatory if you want to join the club.
