As part of our CONNECTIONS to CLASS page, I now have a large number of the Words Their Way lessons templated out using Kidspiration/Inspiration. If your school is using Words Their Way, then this is an easy tool to incorporate into daily practice. Word study (with its focus on phonological awareness, patterning and logic construction) can now include a practice component on a classroom computer. Students can work in groups or individually to move the words on a screen as well as have the option of recording and hearing sound. As well, these templates off an opportunity to practice with a SmartBoard – so kinesthetic and interpersonal!
If your site doesn’t use Words Their Way, then this may be a great time to dive in. Ask your district Literacy helping teacher to come and play with you. If you are a site that has the program running and would like to move towards strengthening the connection (both in class and at home), please email me if you are interested in getting this package for yourself and your teachers (it will be loaded onto your Lessons drive). Imagine what this can do to strengthen the brain work that is being done during FFW.
