The physical Cart for Laptop Cart 3 has arrived!!! (Half YAY!)… We now have a work order in to put the laptops on and configure the cart… so we are on our way.
I’ve noticed a few people have already gone ahead and book Laptop Cart 3 for November & December. I’m moving your bookings to Laptop Cart 2 (just on the off chance that there is an issue configuring… and it takes awhile) so you still have first dibs on the tech.
Hey everyone. Hope the first few weeks have been going well.
We still have not heard when Laptop Cart 3 will be available. Please don’t sign it out until I let you know it has arrived and is ready to go. (The missing laptops from Cart 1 & 2 should be approved and off to be fixed ASAP).
I’ll be coming around to Department Heads and asking about technology needs/wants for the year (as the Technology committee- which I chair- met on Monday Sept 18th). So, let your DH’s know of any cool tech devices or software that would benefit you & your department and we will see what we can do about it!
A couple of other housekeeping things:
- Please remember to put iPads & Laptops away properly (and in a timely fashion at the end of each block).
- Any School website updates can be sent to myself of Sherry.
- If you haven’t set your MyEDBC up for cumulative grading, the option will be again available on Nov 6th (when the portal is open for the end of Term 1).
- Let me know if there is anything I can help you with implementing (ie: Updating a department website, using some new software in class, etc). I’m eager to help (and learn myself if it is something new to me as well)!
Just a quick update, that I’ve been informed that both carts are missing laptops. This is because at the end of last year, they were put aside as students have broken keys off. I’m looking into getting them fixed, but as of now we are short 2 laptops on Laptop Cart 1, and 1 laptop on Laptop Cart 2. Please keep this in mind when you are booking (if you have a smaller class size, try to book Cart 1 if it is available) the carts to help out your coworkers.
As well, please be vigilant with students about using the equipment properly. Make sure to assign 1 device to a student for the entire project (perhaps even the semester) so we can track back future problems to a specific student, and take proper actions if issues do arise.
I will be adding a communication book to each cart, so we can keep track of what is happening within each cart- rather than multiple emails or posts. Should issues problems arise, please write down specifically what is wrong in the book, and I’ll initial the entry once I’ve read it. I’ll highlight any problems once they have been tended to.
It’s been great chatting with/ trying to help people so far in only the first few days of the semester. I’m trying to get around and help get things up and running ASAP if there are problems so you can all start in on your courses without too much interruption. Please bear with me as I’ll do my best to help/resolve issues as I quickly as I possibly can with one block of time to do so.
