Our Reading products are up and running after a bit of a bumpy technical start. (All of our sites are going through a districtwide reimaging process, which has given some of us an opportunity to practice our problem-solving skills.) However, even during the early stages, we are seeing some positives. Both students and classroom teachers are seeing a connection with the process of reading. This is understandable as these exercises present as ‘real reading-type exercises’.
All of our students have been enrolled at their “success place” (the place where we know they will gain success and yet find a little bit of challenge). This is a two-fold goal:
- provide a strong social emotional boost (at the very beginning)
- provide opportunity where there is a little bit of challenge with minimal scaffolding (Vygotsky in action…) and make rapid connections
Result? The students are moving quickly through the Reading Levels, feeling good about their reading achievement and wanting more. What a place to find oneself!
