Hey Grade 12's,

Have you already applied to SFU, or ar thinking of applying to SFU for September 2012?

On Monday, February 6th, at Lunch, there will be an SFU Representative here at Burnaby South for a Presentation in the Multi-Purpose Room.

This Presentation will provide some extremely important information regarding:

  • How to complete the application to-do list
  • Self-reporting of grades
  • How to check your application status
  • When to expect an admissions offer
  • More information regarding Scholarships & Financial Aid
  • What your next steps are after receiving an admission offer to SFU
  • Additional details

The Presentation will start promptly at 11:45am, so please make sure to come to the Multi-Purpose Room as soon as lunch begins to secure your seat.

The Presenter will be happy to answer any questions you may have about SFU, so please come prepared 🙂

High grades will no longer be the only path to admission at the University of B.C., now that the school will also begin to consider personal profiles written by high school students.

The new admissions procedure, which the school is set to announce next week, will require students to describe the challenges they've faced as well as their leadership and teamwork skills.

"We think that the broader-based admission process will give us a lot richer information about who our applicants are," Lisa Collins of UBC Enrolment Services told CTV News.

Paul Harrison, the associate dean of student services for the Faculty of Science, says that the minimum average grade to get into the faculty has risen from the mid-80s to about 90 per cent in recent years. While academic achievement will still be the main consideration for applicants to UBC, Harrison says the school is trying to make sure it doesn't miss out on worthy students.

"The kinds of skills and behaviours that will lead to success in university are not necessarily reflected for everybody in their high school grades," he said.

At UBC's Sauder School of Business, personal profiles have been a requirement for several years. Some business students who spoke with CTV News said they suspect some classmates padded their applications to get in, lying about extracurriculars they didn't participate in.

UBC officials say they will be beefing up their screening procedures to weed out the cheaters.

"We do have mechanisms to catch them," Collins said. "They need to provide references who can verify what it is they've listed on their personal profile. We do random checking of those applications to verify information."

She added that if lies are uncovered, the student responsible will not be admitted to UBC.

The new procedure starts this year for all September undergraduate applications.

Hey Grads!

All Grade 12 students MUST fill out a Post Secondary Institutions (PSI) form by April 30, 2012

This is so your Final Transcript will go to any Post-Secondary Institution in Canada (if you are planning on attending the US, you will still be responsible to send in your final Transcript to those Universities).

Hey Grade 11's!

Are you thinking of applying to the US for University?

If so, you should be thinking about writing your SAT's this upcoming Spring 2012!

Remember, US University Applications are Due December 31st of your Grade 12 Year, meaning that you MUST have your SAT scores available by that time to submit to Universities.

Hey Grads!

Just a reminder that if you are thinking of applying to UBC for September 2012, that the deadline is January 31st.

That includes: your Application, any Supplemental Applications, References, etc....

Make sure not to wait till the last minute to apply!!

Hey Grads!

Ms. Wong has extended the deadline for your Grad Baby Photo's to Friday, December 16th.

Please make sure to email your baby pics to Ms. Wong (Sharon.Wong@sd41.bc.ca) no later than the 16th if you want your baby pic in this year's Yearbook!

ALSO! Southpoint is taking orders for Grad Wear also until December 16th.  If you want to make sure you get your grad wear, go down to Southpoint to put your order in.

  • Hoodies are $50 and they come in black with gold printing or white with black printing
