Up to $7000 scholarship for students wanting to get certification as a Commercial Heavy Duty Mechanic: Deadline June 30th

The Association of School Transportation Services of British Columbia (ASTSBC) will award a scholarship to eligible student(s) attending an educational facility in the Province of British Columbia for the express purpose of attaining certification as a Commercial Heavy Duty Mechanic. The Association will sponsor a maximum of four (4) students at any one time.

Eligibility Criteria for the ASTSBC Scholarship:

The applicant must:

  1. a)  be registered at an approved (authorized or certified) British Columbia educational facility;
  2. b)  have a minimum GPA of 3.5;
  3. c)  be a Canadian citizen;
  4. d)  submit a complete, up-to-date, official high school transcript from Grade 12 or proof of equivalency;
  5. e)  complete and submit the Scholarship Application, which includes 2 essays to be written by the applicant.

    Question 1: Describe the importance of a Commercial Heavy-Duty Mechanic as it relates to the Kindergarten to Grade 12 educational system.

    Question 2: What do you think is the greatest advancement in the various technologies used in heavy-duty vehicles over the last 10 years?

$1000 Burnaby Retired Teachers’ Association Scholarship: Deadline Friday, April 27th

Criteria for the BRTA Scholarship:

  1. The student has been enrolled in a Burnaby school for his/her two senior years and has maintained a good standard of achievement.
  2. The student intends to register at a post-secondary institution and has financial need.

Additional Factors for consideration:

The student has:

  • Been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work: tutoring, peer counselling, church, clubs, recreation, etc.
  • Been actively involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, leadership, government, dance, music, athletics, debating, etc.]
  • Demonstrated special skills, hobbies, interests, and/or training
  • Demonstrated responsibility

$3000 Burnaby Retired Teachers’ Association Wynn Richmond Scholarship for students intending to pursue an Education Degree: Deadline Friday, April 27th

The Burnaby Retired Teachers’ Association is offering one $3000 scholarship to a Byrne Creek student who intends to pursue an Education Degree.

Criteria for the BRTA Wynn Richmond Bursary Fund:

  1. The student should have been enrolled in a Burnaby school for his/her two senior years and maintained a high standard of achievement.
  2. The student must intend to pursue an Education Degree at one of the following B.C. post-secondary institutions:
  • University of British Columbia
  • Simon Fraser University
  • University of Victoria
  • Malaspina College/University
  • University of Northern British Columbia

If you meet the above criteria, please submit a short statement (no more than one page, double spaced) about your interest in an Education Degree and why you are a suitable candidate for this $3000 scholarship to Ms. Falsetto before Friday, April 27th.

$1000 Youth Transforming Society for dedication and commitment to selfless community service: Deadline May 4th

$1000 awards will recognize students for their dedication and commitment to selfless service in the community. We hope to continue to celebrate the achievements of young people who have created positive change.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this award, the applicant must be:

1. A graduating, grade 12 student attending secondary school in the Lower Mainland.
2. Attending a Canadian post-secondary institution on a full time basis beginning September 2018. Proof of acceptance may be requested.
3. Actively involved in voluntary pursuits of any kind (humanitarian, environmental, etc.).
4. Minimum academic average of 70%. Proof of average may be requested.

$1500 Betty Spalton Scholarship for road building and heavy construction. Deadline May 31

The Betty Spalton Trust Fund was established in 1999 to provide financial support to individuals obtaining an education in fields associated with the road building and heavy construction industry. As one of the goals of this fund is to encourage diversity in the industry, preference is given to females and/or members of minority groups. The fund honours Betty Spalton, an industry and Association leader who died after a brief illness in 1999.

WHO MAY APPLY

  • Any student entering or continuing studies leading to a career in road building, road maintenance or heavy construction.
  • Preference will be given to students who are female and/or members of minority groups.
  • Program of study may be either full time or part-time at any B.C. college, university, technical or trades institute.
  • Individuals returning back-to-school to upgrade their skills and knowledge are welcome to apply.
  • The judges reserve the right to not award the scholarship if there is no suitable candidate.
  • All applicants must be Canadian citizens.

APPLICATIONS SHOULD INCLUDE

  • A brief 250 – 500 word essay explaining interest in obtaining an education in the eld and career goals.
  • Transcripts from any secondary and post-secondary institutions attended.

$2000 Nurses Educational Scholarship for students enrolling in Nursing School. Deadline April 30th

This scholarship is for all students seeking a career in nursing. Students eligible include those who will be attending nursing school within the next 12 months, those currently enrolled in a nursing program, and those who graduated from a nursing program in the past 12 months.

Eligibility
Any individual at least sixteen (16) years old who meets one of the following criteria:

1) Currently attending high school (or equivalent) and will be attending an accredited university or college nursing program in the next academic year.
2) Currently attending an accredited university or college nursing program (undergraduate and graduate students are both eligible)
