On May 10th, Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains spoke to students at Burnaby Central on the history of South Asians in British Columbia. Her talk introduced students to Sikh culture and discussed the challenges, successes and contributions that Sikhs have had on nation building in Canada. More specifically, the presentation focused on how Canadian society has been impacted both historically and in the contemporary moment by Sikh migration, settlement and integration. 118 years of Sikh history can be encapsulated in three areas of inquiry: migration, identity and politics/law as they relate to host and home and the lived experiences of so many Sikh families in BC.
Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains’ has kindly allowed us to share her PPT presentation. Please see below.
