COURSES OFFERED TO CHALLENGE

  • French 11 or 12

    • Important Notice for German Language Challenge Exams:  Due to consistent low enrollment it has been decided that 2017/2018 will be the last year that German 11/12 exams will be offered.
  • Japanese 11 or 12
  • Korean 11 or 12
  • Mandarin 11 or 12
  • Punjabi 11 or 12
  • Spanish 11 or 12

 

If you would like to complete a Language Challenge Exam, you MUST complete the following:

  1. Download the Language Challenge Exam Application (2017-18) and fill it out completely
    • ​You need to complete pages 9, 10 & 11 online before you print out the application and bring it to me
  2. Attach a cheque for $50 (which will be refunded once you complete the Challenge exam) made out to: Delta School District
    • ​You must also print your full name, school and course you are challenging on the back of the cheque
    • FYI….If you fail to show up to your exam, then your $50 deposit will NOT be refunded
    • Note:  all International Students need to submit a $175.00 as a non-refundable fee for exams
  3. Attach a recent, original photo of you (can be passport type or school photo)
    • ​​ It MUST be an actual picture picture
      • if you do not have an actual physical picture, then go get a Passport photo done and bring one of those
    • It CANNOT be a photocopy of a picture
    • ​​It CANNOT include anybody else in the picture (ie; friends, family, pets)
  4. Submit the COMPLETED Application Package to Ms. Fenn (in Student Services, room C118) no later than Monday, October 23rd
  5. Exam dates are either: January 27th or 28th, 2018 – in DELTA SCHOOL DISTRICT

  NOTE: All universities in Canada accept our Language Challenge exam marks. UBC accepts Challenge credits for pre-requisite and requirements for courses and second-language requirements but does not accept Challenge marks as part of the GPA calculation for admission. It is highly recommended that you check with your intended university for their admissions requirements.

Burnaby South is happy to be hosting 2 Post-Secondary Presentations Tomorrow, November 24th

  1. University of Toronto will be here for a special presentation in the Multi-Purpose Room from 10:30am to 11:30am
    • The University of Toronto Presenter will provide important information on UofT’s Programs, Campus Life and Admission Requirements.  It will also be an excellent opportunity for all of you to get all of your questions answered right away!
    • This is the ONLY time they will be here this year!!
    • Students should get an permission slip from their Counsellor to attend the presentation
    • Parents are welcome to attend this presentation
  2. BC Post-Secondary Information Afternoon will take place in the Cafeteria from 1pm to 3pm

 

Both Events are FANTASTIC opportunities for Students and Parents/Guardians to meet with these Post-Secondary Institutions, and gather all the important information about future admissions

SFU will be here on Wednesday, November 23rd at 3:30pm, for a special presentation in the Multi-Purpose Room, at Burnaby South.

Application deadlines

For students who would like to be considered for early admission for the 2017 Winter Session, as well as a Major Entrance Scholarship, the application deadline is December 1, 2016.

The deadline for the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award and International Scholars Program Awards is December 1, 2016.

The final application deadline for the 2017 Winter Session is January 15, 2017.

Early admission to UBC

UBC will make early offers of admission to a limited number of highly competitive high school students who follow the Canadian curriculum. Please see our early admissions blog post for more details.

Schulich Leader Scholarships

The Schulich Leader Scholarships program recognizes students across Canada who demonstrate excellence in academics and community leadership, and plan to study in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) areas at either of UBC's campuses during their undergraduate degree.

Financial planning

We encourage students to start their financial planning for university studies early. Students applying to the Okanagan campus may contact Student Services to learn more about their financial options. On the Vancouver campus, Enrolment Services Professionals are available to help students with financial planning and resources.

Learn how applied science can make a world of difference. Bring your friends and family to explore – we suggest you plan to attend the whole day, as there are activities happening throughout the day.

Presentations

Presentations will be in the CHBE Building. The Geering Up Engineering & Science Show will be in the Macleod Building.

We highly recommend attending the “Why Engineering?” and “admissions” presentations to get the basic information you need: learn about the diverse field of engineering and why it’s an amazing field to enter and planning to attend UBC. Then, listen to one of our students talk about their student experiences: globally and on campus and all the opportunities available to you. Find out the benefits of our Co-op Program and where you can go with it. We will post the schedule closer to the Open House.

Lab Tours

Would you like to see inside one of our labs? Find out what it is like to be a civil engineering, solving water flow problems. Or would you like to see what our current student design teams are working on? Take a tour and find out more. We will post the schedule and registration for lab tours closer to Open House.

eng•cite Lunch for Grade 10-12 Girls

Grade 10-12 girls interested in science and math are invited to attend the eng•cite Lunch for an opportunity to talk to and hear presentations by women who are currently studying engineering or young alumnae who are working in the industry. We would like to provide an open forum to enable discussions with and questions to other female students/engineers who were facing a similar decision more recently, and why they chose their path.

dalhousieDalhousie’s Fall Information Session will be in Vancouver at the Vancouver Convention Centre – West Building on Wednesday, November 23rd

The session will cover what it means to be a student at Dalhousie and include topics like programs, admissions, student life, and much more. Pre-registration for students is required and available at www.dal.ca/connect under the Upcoming Events link

At this session, students have the option of applying on the spot and will receive an admissions decision by email within 24 hours. On-site admissions drop-off will be available between 6:00-6:45pm, with the information session beginning at 7:00pm.

In order to be considered for on-site admissions, students will need to bring the following:

  • A completed paper application form (available at dal.ca/applynow)
  • Application Fee of $70 (payable by cheque, or filling out credit card information on the application; Cash payment will NOT be accepted)
  • Current high school transcript will all final grade 11 marks
  • List of current and expected grade 12 courses (this can also be indicated on the transcript)

Discover Pharmacy Day on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Pharmaceutical Sciences Building, University of British Columbia!

Discover Pharmacy Day is a one-day event that gives students a sneak-peak into the world of pharmacy. This event is geared towards high school students (Grades 10-12) who are interested in health sciences programs and want to learn more about what it means to be a pharmacist!

Participants will choose two workshops, sit in on an interesting lecture from our very own Dr. James P. McCormack, Professor in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Co-host of the popular Best Science (BS) Medicine Podcast, and learn about how to start their journey to pharmacy school. Participants will receive a certificate to acknowledge their participation in the learning sessions – after all, the workshops are taken straight from Entry-to-Practice Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum!

Spaces are limited, so it’s best to apply early. The deadline to apply is Sunday, November 13, 2016.

The University Presenter will provide information on McGill's Programs, Campus Life and Admission Requirements.  It will also be an excellent opportunity for all of you to get all of your questions answered right away!

McGill University will also be holding 3 Information Sessions in Vancouver.

Students are invited to attend and speak with McGill University Recruitment and Admissions Officers about academic programs, campus activities, and student life in Montreal.
