UBC Applied Science Open House

Open House

We look forward to seeing you on November 26, 2016.

Registration

Saturday, November 26, 2016.

Engineers, nurses and architects help prevent disease, reduce poverty and create solutions to protect people and our planet.

There’ll be cool demonstrations, fascinating lab tours, informative presentations. Talk to advisors, professors and current students about all your options. Learn how applied science can make a world of difference. Bring your friends and family to explore – we suggest you plan to attend the whole day, as there are activities happening throughout the day.

Registration is required for the Lab Tours and eng•cite Girls Lunch - all other activities are drop-in and first come, first served.

Advising Hub

10:00am - 4:00pm

Have questions about courses? About services? About admissions? Questions about anything at all? Come talk to one of our Engineering Student Services Academic Advisors in Kaiser 1100.

Academic Booth Fair

10:00am - 4:00pm

Come visit each of our academic departments and programs in the Kaiser Atrium. Professors and current students will be happy to chat with you and answer any questions you have. If you are interested in biomedical engineering, ask about it at the Electrical & Computer Engineering booth or the Mechanical Engineering booth. We also have a Pre-Med Alternative Path for students interested in applying to medical school after their undergraduate degree - check with our Welcome Booth for directions to get more information. We will also be joined by the School of Nursing and the School of Architecture & Landscape Architecture.

DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM BOOTHS IN KAISER ATRIUM

School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture | School of Engineering – UBC’s Okanagan campus | School of Nursing

Vantage College | Biomedical Engineering | Chemical and Biological Engineering | Civil Engineering

Engineering Co-operative Program | Electrical and Computer Engineering | Engineering Physics

Environmental Engineering | Geological Engineering | Integrated Engineering

Mechanical Engineering | Mining Engineering | Materials Engineering

Presentations

Presentations will be in the CHBE Building. The Geering Up Engineering & Science Show will be in the Macleod Building.

We highly recommend attending the “Why Engineering?” and “admissions” presentations to get the basic information you need: learn about the diverse field of engineering and why it’s an amazing field to enter and planning to attend UBC. Then, listen to one of our students talk about their student experiences: globally and on campus and all the opportunities available to you. Find out the benefits of our Co-op Program and where you can go with it. We will post the schedule closer to the Open House.

Lab Tours

Would you like to see inside one of our labs? Find out what it is like to be a civil engineering, solving water flow problems. Or would you like to see what our current student design teams are working on? Take a tour and find out more. We will post the schedule and registration for lab tours closer to Open House.

eng•cite Lunch for Grade 10-12 Girls

Grade 10-12 girls interested in science and math are invited to attend the eng•cite Lunch for an opportunity to talk to and hear presentations by women who are currently studying engineering or young alumnae who are working in the industry. We would like to provide an open forum to enable discussions with and questions to other female students/engineers who were facing a similar decision more recently, and why they chose their path.
