Brief Course Description:
It is expected that students will:
• exchange ideas and thoughts about areas of personal interest
• express plans, goals, and intentions in the short term and long term give reasons and information to support points of view on familiar issues
• interact in situations drawn from real life
• research, synthesize, and present relevant information from several Spanish-language resources on chosen topics to complete authentic tasks
• convey acquired information in oral, visual, and written forms
• view, listen to, and read creative works, and respond to them in various ways
• identify the contributions of Spanish-speaking people to their own countries and to the world
• examine the cultural impact of Spanish exploration of various regions of Central America and South America
• adapt language and behaviours to suit cultural context
Enjoyments about this course:
Students who are successful in this course have a positive attitude towards the Spanish language and learning; are always in class getting actively involved; do not mind memorizing; devote at least fifteen minutes each evening to home study, make the effort to use Spanish and learn about the Hispanic culture during their own time.

 

What Careers Does this Course Prepare:
Learning a second language will benefit any student in any career or profession, especially in the metropolitan areas of Canada where there are people from all over the world. Furthermore, Spanish is beneficial for any student planning to work in the United States. Certain universities have second language requirements for entrance purposes.

 

Evaluation Guidelines:
In our language classes, evaluation is ongoing and it includes listening, speaking, reading, writing, communicative ability. It is done individually, with partners, or in a group. Effort plays an important role in evaluation.
