The English Language Arts department at Burnaby South is a wonderful place to learn. We are a passionate group of teachers who love to engage our students with literature, media, spoken language, writing, discussion, and creative work.

This page is mainly an introduction to our course offerings. For more information, you can contact your English teacher or Ms. Lal, the English department head, at shirley.lal@burnabyschools.ca.

We acknowledge that we teach and learn on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

A few inspiring words about reading and writing:

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” (Dr Seuss)

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.” (George RR Martin)

“Most of the basic material a writer works with is acquired before the age of fifteen.” (Willa Cather)
