$500-$5,000 Automotive Retailers Foundation (ARFI) awards: Applications due June 30th

The Automotive Retailers Foundation (ARFI) is dedicated to promoting the Automotive Industry as a viable source of employment in British Columbia. Statistics show that there is an increasing demand for skilled labour in the Automotive Industry. Properly trained technicians will be able to find well-paid, life-long, viable employment in the Automotive Industry in B.C.

In order to help students gain the training and experience they need to become certified technicians the ARFI is offering ten awards ranging from $500 to $5,000 each. The awards are comprised of eight scholarships and two bursaries.

Please note: Students must be enrolled full-time for the year of the scholarship. For instance, applicants who apply in 2019 must be enrolled for the September 2019-2020 academic year.

The following 10 awards are offered in 2019:

ARFI – Bob Clarke Memorial $2000 (quantity 1)

ARFI – BC Auto Recyclers Bursary $2000 (quantity 2)

ARFI – Scholarship – Automotive Trades Development $2000 (quantity 2)

ARFI – Scholarship – Apprenticeship – 2nd year applicants $2000 (quantity 1)

ARFI – Scholarship – Apprenticeship – 3rd year applicants $2000 (quantity 1)

ARFI – Ed Coates – Automotive Red Seal Trade Award $5000 (quantity 1)

ARFI – William (Willie) Freeburn – Automotive Glass Technician Award $500 (quantity 2)

New for 2019: Training, Education & Career Advancement Bursary

Four bursary awards providing up to $2000 for continuing education tuition related to an automotive career. This bursary focuses on all aspects of the Automotive Industry in B.C., not just ‘hands-on’ trades.  Accounting, Sales, Management, Payroll, Human Resources, Marketing, Computer Support, Technical Occupations, and many other areas are equally critical to business success. To be eligible, applicants must have graduated from secondary school. The training / education applied for must be offered through a recognized training provider/facility and relate to some aspect of the Automotive Industry in B.C.

Attn current grade 10 students interested in sports!

BC School Sports is pleased to announce a new scholarship opportunity for two student-athletes (one male, one female) who will be enrolled as grade 11 students for the 2019-20 school year. The two recipients of this scholarship along with a school based chaperone (athletic director, administrator or school based coach) will attend the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS) in Indianapolis, Indiana from July 22-24, 2019. The NSLS will focus on relevant and contemporary issues affecting today’s students in education-based athletics. Students will sharpen their leadership skills and will realize the privilege and power of their influence in their school and community.

Criteria

Each BCSS member school can nominate one male and one female student-athlete who will be enrolled at their school in grade 11 for the 2019-20 school year. These worthy individuals must be involved in school sport as well as be identified as a leader in the school community. The selected students must be accompanied by a school based chaperone. The chaperone will attend the conference as an adult ambassador.

Funding

BCSS will pay 100% of the transportation costs for the two student scholarship recipients, as well as 50% of the chaperone’s transportation cost. NFHS covers all other expenses for both the students and chaperones: hotel room, materials, meals and local ground transportation.

Student Application Instructions

Students wishing to apply must complete the application form on page 2 of this document and attach the following:

• 400-500 word essay outlining why learning to be a better leader in school sportsis important to you.

• Letter of support from a school administrator (or his/her designate) certifying the applicant’sleadership skills and involvement in school sports.

Application Deadline:

Completed and signed application form, together with supporting documents, must reach the BC School Sports office by email (info@bcschoolsports.ca) no later than April 30, 2019.

  4. Will be pursuing full-time studies in an approved post-secondary program in the creative sector
  5. Have two adults complete a “Nominator Form” to be submitted alongside their application form

Cover letter and application clarification for Burnaby District Scholarships- due on Monday

Hello Grads,
When you submit your applications on Monday, your cover letter to the Byrne Creek Scholarship Committee simply addresses the Byrne Creek Scholarship Committee and LISTS the scholarships for which you are applying.  Include your phone number and email address on this letter.  You only need ONE copy of this letter on top of ONE of your applications.
Please only use PAPERCLIPS on your package.  This saves A LOT of time when I make copies of your application for the committee(s).
Each scholarship package must include (and in this order):
•General Scholarship/AwardsApplication Form (found on our website)
•Specific Application form for EACH scholarship (found on our website)
– Example: BASES, Chad Turpin, Marlene Larson Scholarship…
– include all details that the specific application requires
•Financial need statement (if applicable)
– Do you live in a single-income home? Do you work part-time to help with family responsibilities? What is the nature of your parents’ job(s)? How will this money make an impact on your financial stress?
•Updated Resume
•Copy of your grade 11 and 12 transcripts (accessible through MyEd)
•Minimum of THREE reference letters to support community and school service
– Be sure to ask your reference to include the quality of your involvement, number of hours, dates, and any details of your involvement
•Include documentation like certificates, pictures of trophies or medals…
– copies of these recognitions boost your package
When you submit your application(s) on Monday to room B110, you will see a folder for each scholarship.  You will place your application in each applicable folder.  The Byrne Creek Scholarship Committee will finalize our nominees before Friday, April 5th.  The Burnaby District Scholarship Committee will finalize our winner before Friday, April 12th.  Winners will be notified before Friday, April 19th.

Update! Spirit of BC Scholarship not available to Byrne Creek Grads this year

The Spirit of BC Scholarships are awarded annually to graduates on a rotating school basis alphabetically.  Byrne Creek is not on the rotation this year.

If you were considering the Visual or Performing Arts Spirit of BC Scholarship, I encourage you to apply for the Michael J. Fox Scholarship or Burnaby Arts Council Scholarship.

If you were considering the Athletics Spirit of BC Scholarship, I encourage you to apply for the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame (due April 15th) or BC School Sports (due May 6th).

The due date for all Burnaby District scholarships is earlier now.  They are due Monday, April 1st (no joke)! Check the powerpoint info presentation HERE for details on how to apply.  Please be sure to make sure to submit one complete application package for each scholarship for which you are applying.  Please submit your packages to Ms. Falsetto before 4:30pm.

In order to apply, you:

  • must complete a GENERAL Burnaby Scholarship application form HERE
  • must complete a SPECIFIC application for the scholarship in which you are applying
  • are asked to NOT use staples. Please use paperclips, where necessary. (This saves a lot of time when photocopies must be made for the committee members.)

To be considered for the award the student must have:

  • demonstrated a high level of motivation to continue to develop skills and abilities in the chosen profession
