The UBC Centennial Scholars Entrance Award program assists students who are transitioning to UBC from secondary school or another post-secondary institution. The purpose of the program is to financially support academically qualified students who show an interest in joining and contributing to the UBC community, but who would not be able to attend without significant financial assistance. Through the program, new students can access a variety of one-time and renewable awards of up to $40,000, payable over four years. For those studying on UBC’s Vancouver campus, there are opportunities to receive full-ride awards that cover the full cost of their degree and living expenses.
Are you eligible?
You are eligible to apply for a UBC Centennial Scholars Entrance Award if you are a strong academic student and meet all of UBC’s admission requirements. You must also be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident if Canada who is entering UBC’s Okanagan or Vancouver campus directly from high school, or transferring from another post-secondary institution into a direct-entry program for your first undergraduate degree.
Although you can specify two undergraduate degree choices in your application to UBC, your award application will only be considered for your first-choice campus and degree. The Centennial Scholars Entrance Award is separate from the Presidential Scholars Award. You are eligible to apply for both awards, provided you meet the criteria.
How do you apply?
You and your family must complete an application to demonstrate financial need. The application also requires a reference letter from someone who is well acquainted with you and who can comment on your character, interest in UBC, and financial situation. Your reference could be – but is not limited to – a coach, a teacher, your counsellor, your principal, your supervisor from a work or volunteer position, your family doctor, or a community or religious leader.
By December 1, you must:
- Apply to UBC
- Complete the award application and submit it through the UBC Centennial Scholars Entrance Award (Student Application)
- Have your parent/guardian submit the parent/guardian form (if applicable)
- Have your reference submit the reference form
When is the deadline?
- Completed applications, including student information, parent/guardian information, and reference, must be received by UBC by December 1, 2018.
- If you submit an application for the 2019/20 academic year, UBC will notify you of a decision by May 15, 2019.
