As part of their Black History unit, Division 1 students researched a famous Black-Canadian or Black-American and presented their final project using the Haiku Deck or Explain Everything app. Students were given a note-taking sheet to help them organize their information. Emphasis was on using good researching skills to obtain important and significant information about the person. Using one of the apps also allowed the students to be creative and original in how they shared their information. Overall, the students did a fabulous job on their projects. In class, their novel study was Underground to Canada by Barbara Smucker and Mrs. Moore used picture books such as Henry’s Freedom Box , and Teammates to teach about racism, slavery and the Underground Railroad.
