Lots to Read

Hi everyone,

I am back working at the school, and so I have a bit less time to record read alouds for all of you! I will try my best, but in the meantime…. Here is a bookshelf full of books for you to follow along with.

Click on any of the books on the bookshelf and you will go to a video of that book. Some books are read by their authors and others are read by librarians or teachers like me. Hopefully you will find a story or two that you really enjoy!

Happy Reading 🙂

Hair Love – Read Aloud and Movie

Hi everyone,

With the world talking about diversity and racial equality even more now than ever, I wanted to include a post about a book that I recently read called Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry, illustrated by Vashti Harrison. This book is about a girl and her dad and their love for each other. It’s also about self-confidence – feeling good about yourself, trying your best, and not giving up. It’s also about HAIR!

From the author,  Matthew A. Cherry’s website: “This story was born out of seeing a lack of representation in mainstream animated projects, and also wanting to promote hair love amongst young men and women of color. It is our hope that this project will inspire.”

This book was made into a 7 minute film that won the 2020 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

Below, I’ve included both a read aloud as well as the short movie from YouTube. Enjoy!

Say Something – Read Aloud

Hello everyone,

The story I am sharing today is Say Something by Peter H. Reynolds. I chose this book because it’s message is so important right now.

What do you think the author is trying to get us to think about? What is the message? What would you like to say to the world?

If you would like to learn more about Peter H. Reynolds and his books, you can visit his website HERE

The Word Collector – Read Aloud

Hi everyone,

I have a lot of favourite books – you probably know that from when we are in the library and I say, “Today I am going to read you one of my favourite books!”

I was excited to see Barack and Michelle Obama reading The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds because it is one of my favourites! I love this book because it is about words and collecting – two super fun things!

After reading along with the Obamas, see what kind of fun words you can find around you. I’ve included a photo of just a few of my favourite words.

Happy Reading!
