Course Selection Presentations

Course selection has begun!!!

Below is the schedule for the upcoming Course Selection Presentations.  We encourage students to see their counsellor for individual consultation if they have questions regarding the course selection process, needing guidance regarding selection of courses and any discussion about post- secondary and career plans.  Students will be selecting their courses online, the portal will open up from Feb 6th to Feb 28th. Course Selection forms will also be given to students, which requires a parents signature and are Due FEB 28th and to be handed in to their counsellor.

FEB 7, 8, 9,10 –    Senior Presentations  Grs 10s in Period 1  &  Gr 11s in Periods  2
Feb 14, 15, 16 –   Junior Presentations  Gr 8s in Period 3 & Gr 9s in Period  4
Feb 20 French Immersion
Feb 21 Mini School
Feb 22 ELL

Counsellors will also be in the computer lab (Room 316) from Feb 20 to 24,  to help any students who need assistance to select their courses online or missed their course selection presentation.

FREE Green Collar Careers Conference for Students

Green Bricks is very pleased to offer to grade 10-12 students FREE participation in the 4th Annual Green Collar Futures Career Conference on Saturday February 18, 2017 at the Hilton Metrotown, Burnaby. 

*Space is VERY LIMITED (and a school limit may apply) so students can register at http://www.greenbricks.ca/futures/register.php.  Students MUST be registered by February 15, 2017 to attend this event but as it “sold out” last year we recommend registering as early as possible.

Explore your options on February 18, 2017 at this FREE green career conference for youth in grades 10-12. 

The “green economy” is changing the face of the workplace in BC and around the world. This day is dedicated to students in grades 10 – 12 to learn about exciting and endless career opportunities. Futures is much more than a career fair as it allows you to interact with career mentors from various sustainability related careers who have excelled in and are passionate about their green careers.

This interactive career workshop will be offered free of charge to 150 young people in grade 10-12 and will allow participants the opportunity to:

            • Meet and interact with amazing and successful people who will share their sustainability career paths in 5 breakout, roundtable sessions 
            • Learn about emerging sustainability career opportunities in BC and Internationally
            • Listen to an inspirational keynote address from Dr. Nicholas Coops, UBC Professor and Canada Research Chair in Remote Sensing for forest productivity and conservation
            • Meet the engaging green entrepreneur – founder of Abeego Designs Inc., Toni Desrosiers
            • Find out what it takes to reach your goals

Canadian Armed Forces Info Session – Feb 9th, 2017

The Canadian Armed Forces Recruiting Centre Detachment Vancouver will be holding an information session on Thursday, February 9th  at 6 PM at our Recruitment Centre located at 620 Royal Ave, New Westminster, BC. This will be a general information session on employment opportunities within the Canadian Armed Forces and how to join our organization. As our fiscal year starts April 1st, majority of our occupations open on that date, and so this is an excellent time to submit an application or learn more about the CAF. There will also be an opportunity to speak to a recruiter and to ask any questions you may have.

Post Secondary Guest Speaker

POST-SECONDARY GUEST SPEAKER

Attention Grade 11 and 12 students You are invited to the library on Wednesday, Feb 8 at lunch to hear from “Steps to Success” – a group of guest speakers from UBC, SFU, Western University, and Capilano University who will speak on the transition from high school to university, with information on university application, the various majors offered at universities, the specific demands of various degree programs, internships and co-op opportunities. The speakers are current students in the faculties of Business, Engineering and Science. There is no need to sign up for this event – just come to the library on Wednesday at lunch.

Capilano Info Night – March 2nd, 2017

EXPLORE CAPILANO UNIVERSITY INFO NIGHT – March 2, 2017

Grade 11 and 12 students are invited to Capilano University’s North Vancouver campus for their annual Explore Capilano Info Night, March 2, from 5:30pm to 8pm.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about Capilano’s programs, entrance requirements, and university transfer options. Students are encouraged to RSVP at explorecapilano.ca for a chance to win prizes. Free parking will be also be available.

University of Alberta Program

University of Alberta program for Grade 11 students!

ATTENTION GRADE 11’s:  University of Alberta is hosting an event called Boarding UAlberta. It is open to Grade 11 students from across Canada who are interested in spending a weekend in May at the university to see first-hand if Edmonton and UofA are the right fit for them. There will be 20 Grade 11 students selected for this program, and costs will fully be covered (airfare, accommodation and events/activities). To apply, go to uab.ca/boarding

UBC Gateway Programs for First-Year Students

UBC GATEWAY PROGRAMS FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Did you know that UBC has four small comprehensive one-year programs offered for first-year students? The Faculty of Arts offers the Arts One Program and the Coordinated Arts Program.  The Faculty of Science offers the Science One Program and the Coordinated Science Program. These programs offer smaller learning communities in a concentrated theme area, and opportunities for more first-year support from professors. Gr 8 Girls – Get creative and participate in fun engineering activities, and talk to current engineering students and professionals who will share their stories and experience.

 

Geering Up Clubs – Jan 21 – Apr 1

Geering Up clubs are a mix of science and engineering through hands-on projects, demos, design challenges, lab tours! All clubs are taught by experienced university students with a passion for their field of study.

 

UBC Engineering Tours – Wednesdays at 5pm, Jan – April

This one hour session takes you through engineering labs and student spaces within UBC Engineering.
