Canadian Armed Forces Info Session – Feb 9th, 2017

The Canadian Armed Forces Recruiting Centre Detachment Vancouver will be holding an information session on Thursday, February 9th  at 6 PM at our Recruitment Centre located at 620 Royal Ave, New Westminster, BC. This will be a general information session on employment opportunities within the Canadian Armed Forces and how to join our organization. As our fiscal year starts April 1st, majority of our occupations open on that date, and so this is an excellent time to submit an application or learn more about the CAF. There will also be an opportunity to speak to a recruiter and to ask any questions you may have.

POST-SECONDARY GUEST SPEAKER

Attention Grade 11 and 12 students You are invited to the library on Wednesday, Feb 8 at lunch to hear from “Steps to Success” – a group of guest speakers from UBC, SFU, Western University, and Capilano University who will speak on the transition from high school to university, with information on university application, the various majors offered at universities, the specific demands of various degree programs, internships and co-op opportunities. The speakers are current students in the faculties of Business, Engineering and Science. There is no need to sign up for this event – just come to the library on Wednesday at lunch.

Capilano Info Night – March 2nd, 2017

EXPLORE CAPILANO UNIVERSITY INFO NIGHT – March 2, 2017

Grade 11 and 12 students are invited to Capilano University’s North Vancouver campus for their annual Explore Capilano Info Night, March 2, from 5:30pm to 8pm.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about Capilano’s programs, entrance requirements, and university transfer options. Students are encouraged to RSVP at explorecapilano.ca for a chance to win prizes. Free parking will be also be available.

University of Alberta Program

University of Alberta program for Grade 11 students!

ATTENTION GRADE 11’s:  University of Alberta is hosting an event called Boarding UAlberta. It is open to Grade 11 students from across Canada who are interested in spending a weekend in May at the university to see first-hand if Edmonton and UofA are the right fit for them. There will be 20 Grade 11 students selected for this program, and costs will fully be covered (airfare, accommodation and events/activities). To apply, go to uab.ca/boarding

UBC Gateway Programs for First-Year Students

UBC GATEWAY PROGRAMS FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Did you know that UBC has four small comprehensive one-year programs offered for first-year students? The Faculty of Arts offers the Arts One Program and the Coordinated Arts Program.  The Faculty of Science offers the Science One Program and the Coordinated Science Program. These programs offer smaller learning communities in a concentrated theme area, and opportunities for more first-year support from professors. Geering Up clubs are a mix of science and engineering through hands-on projects, demos, design challenges, lab tours! All clubs are taught by experienced university students with a passion for their field of study.

UBC Deadlines

Application deadline

The application deadline to be considered for early admission for the 2017 Winter Session is December 1, 2016.

The final application deadline for the 2017 Winter Session is January 15, 2017.

Personal Profile

The Personal Profile is used to assess a student’s preparedness for university. Applicants are asked to reflect on past experiences, accomplishments, and challenges by answering five to seven questions. Read our advice and watch our video on how to put forth a strong Personal Profile.

Undergraduate entrance scholarships

The Major Entrance Scholarship program recognizes exceptional students for their academic and non-academic achievements by offering awards valued up to $40,000. Students who apply by December 1 will be automatically considered for this award.

The Centennial Scholars Entrance Award is designed to improve access to post-secondary education for students facing significant financial barriers. This award is valued up to $80,000 and requires a separate application. Deadline to apply is December 1. 

A number of Major Entrance Scholarships and Centennial Scholars Entrance Awards are designated specifically for Aboriginal students. Applicants can self-identify as Aboriginal in their application to UBC.

International undergraduate entrance scholarships

UBC also recognizes the achievements of outstanding students from around the world by devoting non-public funds to scholarships and awards for international students.

UVIC Updates

 

  1. Online application is now open
    We are now accepting applications for next September. The deadline for current high school students is February 28, 2017. Encourage your students to apply as soon as possible. www.uvic.ca/apply
  2. Supplementary application materials update
    Several UVic programs require applicants to answer supplementary questions or upload specific documents (such as letters of intent, resumes and references) in addition to their regular application. Depending on the program, students may be asked to upload these materials before or after submitting their application, or to send documents directly to the department. A listing of programs that require supplemental application information is available on our website. www.uvic.ca/supplemental
  3. Self-reporting opens February 15, 2017
    We would like to remind all current grade 12 students completing a Canadian high school curriculum or a full IB diploma at a school in Canada must self-report their grades between February 15 and March 31, 2017.  www.uvic.ca/self-reporting  The link for students to self-report will be available on the application portal beginning February 15, 2017.
  4. English language proficiency deadlines
    All applicants to UVic (regardless of country of origin or citizenship status) are required to demonstrate English language proficiency prior to admission. www.uvic.ca/elr
    Deadlines to submit proof of English language proficiency are:
    *  Gustavson School of Business – March 15, 2017
        *  All other faculties and programs – May 1, 2017
    Students are reminded that applications will not be processed until proof of language proficiency has been confirmed. They are encouraged to submit documentation as soon as possible
  5. MyUVic accounts (NEW)
    In order for prospective students to receive notifications regarding upcoming recruitment events and activities, register for events, book campus tours and receive timely reminders during key phases of the application/admission process, they will now be required to sign up for a MyUVic account at www.myuvic.ca.  Please encourage students who are interested in UVic to sign up as soon as possible.

Your students are sure to find some interesting and relatable stories to help them to learn more about the university from a student perspective.     UVic Virtual Tour – Can’t make it to campus for a tour?  No problem. Students can take an online virtual tour. This is a great way to experience UVic’s campus from your desktop or mobile device. UVic students will guide you through the places they live and learn, including popular spaces, buildings and faculties. There are 16 stops, each with 360° panoramas, videos and photos. See UVic like you’ve never seen it before!
