BC Excellence Scholarship

Interested in being nominated for the BC Excellence Scholarship? Please review the guidelines and email Ms.Gillam by Jan 22nd if you are interested. The school can nominate one student. Student Profile must be complete. (Student application due Feb 15).

The BC Excellence scholarship is awarded to 55 well-rounded high school graduates who have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and who show aptitude for and commitment to their chosen career paths.

Recipients receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher that they can use to be reimbursed by the Ministry of Education for tuition paid after they are attending a designated post-secondary institution or B.C. authorized trades training provider.

  • Anyone currently enrolled as a full-time student in a 4-year program at Burnaby School District OR anyone with an acceptance letter for a 4-year program.
  • Coursework must be directly related to, or leading to a degree in, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, User Experience Design, User Interface Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or other related areas.
  • The student must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher if already enrolled in a program

Cmolik Scholarship

Cmolik Scholarship!

If you believe you are an appropriate candidate for the Cmolik Scholarship please let Ms.Gillam now that you would like to be considered for nomination from Alpha. Must let Ms. Gillam know by Friday, December 17th. (Final application is due Feb 7th, 2022).

Please review criteria below.

  • Must be at arms-length to any Trustee of the Foundation.
  • Must complete a Cmolik Foundation Application (available online).
  • Must be graduates from a British Columbia Secondary School and have lived in Canada for a minimum of 7 years.
  • Must be seeking financial aid to complete a post-secondary education or trade.
  • Must be ineligible for the BC Tuition Waiver Program (for former youth in care).
  • Must have a specific post-secondary goal to complete.  (May change their mind along the way to a different career goal as they develop their aptitudes and interests).
  • Post-secondary education or trade school must be a requirement for their chosen career path.
  • Must have demonstrated the tenacity, focus, and ability required to succeed with their individual post- secondary educational goal.   Please note that while academic standing is an important factor in determining future success in post-secondary endeavors, it is not necessarily our main consideration.
  • Must have experienced adversity or hardship in their life.
  • Without financial aid may not have the opportunity to attain a post secondary education.  The reason for the financial need should be explained in their application.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to finance their transportation and living expenses while attending their chosen educational university or institute, and have a plan to do this.
  • Who have significantly contributed to their school, family and/or community will be given special consideration.
  • Must agree to sometime during their lifetime fund a non-related person in furthering his or her post-secondary education, in a manner similar to the support received from The Cmolik Foundation.

Applications are due February 7th of each year for post-secondary enrollment commencing not later than September of that year.

All applicants must be endorsed by their secondary school. The principal’s nomination letter must be included with the application.

SFU – Entrance Awards & Bursaries

SFU is offering several entrance awards and bursaries for new students. Deadlines for applications are April 30th, 2022.

Fairfax Entrance Bursary

  • Value: $30,000 ($3,000 x 10 installments over 5 years max)
  • Number: 2
  • Minimum 90% admission evaluation required
  • Citizenship: Canadian or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Must be graduating from a Canadian High School

Alan and Margaret Eyre Entrance Bursary

Queens – Chancellor’s Scholarship

In order to be considered for a Chancellor’s Scholarship, the applicant must receive a nomination from the high school where they most recently attended full time study. Nominations from institutions where the applicant is enrolled in part-time studies will not be accepted.

* Please note: The Queen’s Accelerated Route to Medical School (QuARMS) admission process is no longer linked to the Chancellor’s Scholarship application process. For complete information about the QuARMS pathway and admission process, please refer to the School of Medicine website.

To be eligible for this award you must be nominated by the school. If you would like to be considered for this scholarship please complete your student profile and let Ms. Gillam know you would like to be nominated by Wednesday Dec 1. (The overall application is due Dec 8th).

You may apply for all of the awards below that you are eligible for by submitting a single Major Admission Award (MAA) application. The deadline to submit your application is December 8, 2021.

The Major Admission Award application is submitted ONLINE through your Queen’s SOLUS Student Centre. The 2022-2023 Major Admission Award application will be available in Fall 2021.
