Overview
AP Statistics is an introductory college-level statistics course that introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students cultivate their understanding of statistics using technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing as they explore concepts like variation and distribution; patterns and uncertainty; and data-based predictions, decisions, and conclusions.
Course Description
AP Statistics covers four major areas: exploring data, planning a study, probability, and statistical inference. Students entering this course should have sufficient algebra skills and mathematical maturity to handle the collection, analysis and drawing conclusions from collected data. The course will require that students be actively involved in constructing their own knowledge, and as such must display a degree of independent and critical thinking. Some of the requirements will be independent reading and writing statistical reports.
Evaluation Guidelines:
The class grade in this course will be based on chapter tests, assignments and projects. In order to receive university credit students will be required to obtain a score of 3 or higher on the AP Statistics exam in May.
What type of student enjoys and is successful in this course?
.Students who like connecting mathematics to real life activities will find this course interesting. Class work and discussions will be based on analysing real statistical data and interpreting the information obtained from surveys. Students who enjoy independent thinking and working on projects will have the opportunity to do this in AP Statistics. Students must also display a degree of maturity and responsibility necessary to handle the demands of this course.
