Apprentice and Workplace Mathematics 10

Overview

  • Prerequisite: Mathematics 9

Apprentice and Workplace Mathematics 10 is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for en​try into the majority of trades and for direct entry into the work force. This course prepares students for math in the work place and focuses on real-world applications of mathematics.

This course follows the provincial curriculum, with an emphasis on helping students build skills around four main ideas:

  • proportional reasoning
  • measurement of 3-dimensional objects
  • number sense and flexibility with numbers
  • representing and analyzing data to make sense of it.

Math learned in this course would be highly valued in trades programs, culinary programs, personal budgeting, and direct entry into the workforce after graduation. Successful completion of Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 10 will lead into Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 11.

Evaluation Guidelines:

The evaluation of this course will based upon tests, in-class assignments, homework and occasional projects.

What type of student enjoys and is successful in this course?
Students will need to attend regularly and ask for help when unsure about mathematical concepts. Students who complete all in-class and homework assignments will find success in this course.
