Overview
- Prerequisite: Mathematics 9
- Textbook: Foundations and Pre-Calculus Mathematics 10
Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10 course follows the provincial curriculum, with an emphasis on:
- Problem-solving and real-world applications
- Exploring, expanding and reinforcing an understanding of mathematical concepts studied in Grades 8 and 9
- Reasoning skills
- Word problems
Topics Include:
- Powers: positive and negative exponents, exponent laws, numerical and variable bases
- Linear relations
- Solving systems graphically and algebraically
- Factoring
- Experimental probability
- Financial literacy

Evaluation Guidelines:
The evaluation of this course will based primarily upon tests, assignments, homework and occasional projects.
What type of student enjoys and is successful in this course?
Students who enjoy logical and abstract thinking will be suitable for this course. Students will need to attend regularly and ask for help when unsure about mathematical concepts. Students who complete all homework assignments and study for tests will find success in this course.
