October and November Opportunities

Hello Brentwood Park Families!

I have been enjoying getting to know the students, staff, and families at Brentwood Park this month. I wanted to share a couple of great opportunities/resources for families that will be happening over the next couple of months. The first is through Family Start. Every month, they host online events for parents & caregivers who are parenting a child or youth with a mental health and/or substance use challenge called “in the know.”  The online events are facilitated by FamilySmart Parent Peer Support Workers.

October Event Topic – Working Together: Families and SchoolsSpeakers: Ashley Radoonaden, Principal of Ecole KLO Middle School

November Event Topic – Emotion RegulationSpeaker: Nicole Allen, RCC

The website to register is: www.familystart.ca

There are also a lot of free resources and one on one parenting support on their website as well.

Our own school district is also running a workshop called: “Talking with your kids when things get hard: emotion and behaviour coaching.” This workshop is for families of elementary or secondary students. It will be hosted in-person at Burnaby Central Secondary School

Tuesday November 7th, 2023 / 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Presented by Jennifer Ingham, District Counsellor, and Jocelyn Bryan, Mental Health Liaison
