Since you can’t venture far right now, how about some virtual field trips to tame your wanderlust. Here are some great sites to journey through:
- The Louvre. This enormous and amazing museum is located in Paris, France. Here you will see everything from paintings to ancient antiquities. (Here is the French page).
- Canadian Museum of History. A travel through time as well as space on this site based out of Quebec, available in English and French.
- Iqaluit, Nunavet. Here are some videos and maps made through Google Maps to show us a glimpse of the Canadian Arctic.
- 360 Cities. This site is a bit different because it contains panorama photos of thousands of sites around the world. Search using a world map, or with a descriptive word search. You can see 360° from UNESCO’s World Heritage sites or visit Cabo Cavoeiro, the most western point of Europe in Peniche, Portugal.
- Science World. They are offering a number of online resources to help with your science learning and curiosity. Also, they have posted a number of videos of their centre stage demonstrations that are normally reserved for visitors.
- Great Wall of China. Watch a virtual tour of this world wonder with a number of options to choose from.
- San Diego Zoo. We can’t visit the zoo, but we can see what the animals are up to! Have a look at the live cameras streaming around the zoo.
- Rocky Mountaineer Train. Take a virtual train trip on the Rocky Mountaineer through the Rocky Mountains.
- Galapagos Islands. This is one place I’ve always wanted to visit. Check out the Google maps and videos of these amazing islands full of distinctive creatures.
- Mars. Yes, Mars! Look at the surface of Mars recorded by Nasa’s Curiosity Rover.
Once you’re done your field trip you can share your experience by drawing a picture of your favourite part, writing a journal entry about what you saw or even cooking a dish from the area you “visited”.
