French Resources

Here are number of French sites that will help support your literacy skills when you are not at school.  They are all free (some only temporarily until the end of June) and many also include English books and resources.

  1.  Tumblebooks.  This is part of our district resources and has both English and French books.  Some are read along books and others are simply eBooks that you read on a device.
  2. Epic.  This site has a large selection of French (and English) digital books and videos. This is a site that requires a login and usually requires a paid subscription, however, it is temporarily free.  If you would like me to send you an access code (which is good until the end of June) you can have a parent email me the request.
  3. eBookKids.  This site offers a number of French (and English) digital books for Free.
  4. Je lis, je lis, littératie! This site offers free French readers for teachers to use with students online (up to two classes, until June 30, 2020).  The books have an optional audio feature and some additional resources to support the system as well.
  5. Il etait une histoireHere are a number of French and English stories available at no cost.  Some have audio available and the topics range from poems to documentaries.  I think Cocorico is my favorite so far.
  6. PearsonCanada Pearson Canada has a number of French and English texts and activities available until the end of June.  There are different options and programs available such as  MaBibli and Texidium (Kivuto) which requires a login that lasts 60 days.  Teachers, it is worth checking out the parent pages as well, as they are different and seem to have a lot of practice pages and activities.
  7. Radio-Canada Premiere.  There are some great songs, audiobooks and podcasts available suitable to a large age range.
  8. La Class En Ligne.  This is a series of daily classes available for grades 1-6 taught by Marie-Ève Lévesque– she is a well known teacher in Quebec.  A special thank you to our library assistant Mme. Godbout for sharing this one!
  9. Audible Stories.  This is also a temporary audiobook site that has been created by Amazon.  Normally, Audible requires a monthly membership fee to access its audiobooks, however a select number of children and teen books are available for the time being.  It has books in French, English and a number of other languages.
  10. Idello.  This site contains a number of videos, activities, songs, games, websites in French to support learning.  Information is available for a range of subjects and an account is required.  Thanks to Mme. Parks who led me to this one!
  11. A Green Mouse.  French videos, stories and activities.
  12. CSDM Bibliotheques.  This site has created a huge list of French online resources to support online learning.
  13. The Fable Cottage.  Learning French using storybooks (other languages are also available).
  14. Infos-jeunes.  A weekly news site for students that is available free until June 30,2020.  They also have activities and quizzes to accompany the articles.
