This week at Seaforth, we will be celebrating Carnaval and all things related to Quebec culture. As part of it, I will be reading The Voyageur’s Paddle by Kathy-jo Wargin and The Red Sash by Jean E. Pendziwol to the grade 3s and 4s. These two picturebooks are about the Fur Trade and how integral the French-Canadians where to its success. I will be reading Have you seen Josephine? (As-tu vu Josephine? in French) by Stephane Poulin, a Montreal children’s author. And, of course, I will be showing the video version of that classic story, Le Chandail de Hockey, in English, The Hockey Sweater by Roch Carrier to the Intermediate classes. I’ll even be wearing my Habs jersey!
