Today is Robbie Burns Day, a day many Scottish and not-so Scottish people pay tribute to Robert Burns, a poet who lived in Scotland in the late 1700s. He’s considered their national poet and he is one of the best-loved poets in the world. His most famous poem, Auld Lang Syne is sung by many around the world on New Year’s Eve. To mark this day, I’ll be showing the class, Auld Lang Syne, a biography about Robbie Burns, and reading Brave Highland Heart to some of the primary classes. Our school has a Scottish tie as it is named after the Seaforth Highlanders, a regiment in the British Army that was based in the northern Highlands of Scotland. The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada are based in Vancouver and their armoury is at the south end of the Burrard St. Bridge.
