Last week, I read the primary classes Calvin Can’t Fly: the story of a Bookworm Birdie, by Jennifer Berne. It’s about a bird who couldn’t fly but loved to read. The fact that Calvin could read ended up saving his flock from a disaster because he had the power of knowledge he learned from a non-fiction book. This book was the perfect introduction to theĀ ‘non-fiction walk’ activity the primary students did this week. Primary students were walked through the non-fiction area starting at 001.9 and ending at 998! They were shown the subject areas that they might be interested in. It was amazing how many students already knew some sections such as where the dinosaur and space books were located! Lower intermedate students were shown websites about library skills and the Dewey Decimal system. Links to the websites are on the Seaforth Library Catalogue Home Page.
