Welcome to Burnaby Central’s Wellness Week
Burnaby Central’s Wellness Week is a school-wide event from May 14th -18th to bring awareness on all that encompasses wellness. Although wellness can be defined similarly to health, it may be a more active and process-oriented whereas health is more of a state of being. For example, the national wellness institute defines wellness as, “an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence.” Wellness week is an opportunity for our school community to focus on supporting our physical health and wellbeing. It is all about starting conversations about mental health and things in our daily lives that can affect it. This year we want as many people as possible, students and staff, to participate in each of the planned themed days. The week covers a variety of topics, lessons, activities, and resources on wellness.
The Mental Health Committee and has been working collaboratively to provide students and staff with information and activities based on research, designed to improve mental and physical well-being. Although Wellness Week primarily focuses on one week, we hope that the tactics and strategies learned will stay with our Burnaby Central community for a lifetime!
