Teaching Staff

Mrs. Cameron has been teaching in Burnaby for 16 years. She has 3 children ranging from 6-12 years old who keep her busy while she is not at school. Mrs. Cameron enjoys travelling, photography, sushi, coffee, dogs, and reality tv. This year she is teaching Math 8, Pre-Calculus 12 and Calculus 12.

Ms. Cao has been teaching science and math since 2019. This year, she has the privilege of teaching Math 9, Foundations & Pre-Calculus 10, and Pre-Calculus 11. After school, Ms. Cao enjoys spending time with her dog Juno and trying new restaurants.

As always, Ms. Figursky is excited about this new year of Math teaching & learning.  This year, she will be working with classes of Math 8, Pre-Calculus 12, and Foundations 12.  (“Happy Dance!”)  When not teaching, she is active in her local and provincial union, and in supporting community anti-racism work.

Ms. Godin has been teaching at Alpha secondary since she set foot in British Columbia in 2012. She is passionate about French and Languages. Mathematics is a language she loves! This year, Ms. Godin is teaching Math 8 to the French Immersion cohort. When she is not at school, Ms. Godin likes to go on e-bike rides or walk to the park with her two little kids!

Mr. Ko has been teaching Math in the Burnaby school district since 2006. He is passionate about meaningfully connecting with students and partnering along with them on their mathematical journey. This year Mr. Ko teaches Foundations & Pre-Calculus 10, Pre-Calculus 11, Pre-Calculus 12, and AP Calculus. Mr. Ko loves playing and watching sports of all kinds. He loves eating foods of all kinds too!

Ms. Lam enjoys inspiring and promoting mathematical skills in our students. This school year, she is teaching Math 9, Foundations & Pre-Calculus 10 and Pre-Calculus 11. Outside of work, she enjoys running, eating sushi and spending time with her family.

Ms. Moore is the Scimatics 8/9 teacher for BETA Mini School at Alpha. She is passionate about teaching math and science in an interdisciplinary setting, which allows her to draw upon her background in engineering to provide unique learning opportunities for her students. Ms. Moore loves to travel in her free time and take long walks in the forest with her dog, Finely.

This academic year, Dr. Ojelel teaches Mathematics 8, Workplace Math 11, Foundations 11 and Pre-Calculus 11. He is the Sponsor Teacher for Chess and Math Challengers. He is known to enjoy biking, golf and Formula 1 racing.

As a Math and Science teacher, Mr. Vlacil tries to create a unique classroom experience where students have hands-on learning experiences. He supports each individual learner to reach their potential and find meaning in the math and sciences. Away from his classes, Mr. Vlacil loves playing all kinds of sports and travelling to different places in Canada and all over the world.

This year Madame Vocadlo is teaching Math 9 and Foundations & Pre-Calculus 10 in French Immersion.  She is dedicated to ensuring each student feels proud of their own success in math.  She loves math puzzles, games and riddles!  In her free time, she enjoys volunteering as a Girl Guide leader and spending time outside climbing, hiking and sailing with her family.
