* * * To sign up for math contests, you can talk to your current math teacher or email Mr. Ko at edward.ko@burnabyschools.ca using your school email account and include your current Grade level. You will then added to our Contest TEAMS group where you will be provided more information regarding contests * * *

Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition (CLMC)

The Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition is a new competition that is open to any student with an interest in and grasp of high school math. Topics included are: Probability, Euclidean and analytic geometry, Trigonometry, including functions, graphs and identities, Exponential and logarithmic functions, Functional notation, Systems of equations, Polynomials, including relationships involving the roots of quadratic and cubic equations, Sequences and series, Simple counting problems Elementary number theory, including tests for divisibility, number of divisors, and simple Diophantine equations. The purpose of the CLMC is to encourage students to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics and problem solving and can be used to prepare for the COMC which is a more difficult contest.

CLMC Contest (Thurs. Sept. 28th, 2023)

Beaver Computing Challenge (BCC)

The Beaver Computing Challenge (BCC) introduces computer science to students. It is designed to get students with little or no previous experience excited about computing. The BCC is a problem solving contest with a focus on computational and logical thinking. Questions are inspired by topics in computer science but only require comfort with concepts found in mathematics curriculum common to all provinces.

BCC Contest (weeks of Nov. 6th & Nov. 13th, 2023)

American Mathematics Competition (AMC 10 & 12)

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice contests in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below, and covers the American high school curriculum up to 10th grade. Students in grade 10 or below and under 17.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 10. The AMC 12 covers the entire American high school curriculum including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus. Students in grade 12 or below and under 19.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 12.
