2 Weeks In

We’re coming to the end of the second week and things are settling down.  I’ve seen lots of you coming in for books.  I decided to share some of my favourites with you, so take a wander down Time Warp Blvd (the Social Studies hallway) and take a look at the Library Learning Commons display case.  Think about some of the books that you’ve read (or had read to you) Read More …

Spring Has Sprung

It’s March, there’s one week till Spring Break, and I saw forsythias in bloom yesterday.  All around our neighbourhood bushes are budding, bulbs are popping up, and the rain is coming down.  Best of all, I walk to school and back home in the light.  I find my reading interests changing with the season as well.  Luckily, I was able to go shopping while the grade 12s were having their Read More …

Cool days, not so cozy reads

As the leaves are changing colour and the temperature drops, I am feeling more inclined to grab a cup of tea and curl up in a chair with a good book.  I have been reading a variety lately, fiction and non-fiction.  A couple of the library’s new books that I’ve dipped into are The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow and Ink & Bone by Rachel Caine. The Scorpion Rules is Read More …

Summer Reading

I have been working in the library during Summer Session.  Friday was my last day, so now I’m officially on summer vacation.  My mind is now on summer reading.  I brought some books home with me from Mountain library and I’ve been to Burnaby Public Cameron branch (although I really want to get to the Metrotown branch mystery section).  But do I want to read those books that looked so Read More …

Knitting

As lots of you know, I am a Knitter (notice the capital ‘K’).  But so are many of you.  I am seeing and hearing about more and more of you – students as well as teachers – who are picking up the needles.  There is nothing like the feel of a really nice yarn and the feeling of accomplishment as you see your project take shape. September

Welcome back to all of you.  I hope you had a great summer!  All that sunshine was fabulous and I miss it already.  At the very end of the summer, I was at a Jane Austen tea, during which we celebrated one of my favourite books, Pride & Prejudice.  After 200 years it’s as wonderful (and popular) as ever.  I should have shown this youtube video.  You’ve probably never seen Read More …

Spring Break Reading

We’re just a couple of days from Spring Break(!) so it’s time to get in to the library and pick up some reading.  We have lots of new books.  The new fiction shelf is just inside the front doors, for easy access.  New non-fiction is on the end stack near the new class space.  And there’s still time to read 2013 Mountain Reads titles before voting in May.  So come visit Read More …

New Books

The sun is shining (at least for today) and it’s beginning to feel like Spring.  Along with new life outside, there’s new life in the library in the form of new books.  The New Fiction stand is just inside the doors.  Check it over the next week or so as books are added to it.  Whether your tastes run to mystery, adventure, fantasy, science fiction, romance, or something different, there Read More …

Happy 200th P&P

Library Catalogue As anyone who is a fan of Jane Austen will tell you, P&P stands for Pride and Prejudice, probably her most well-known work.  Last week, on the 28th of January, the book turned 200 years old.  More popular than ever, Jane Austen’s books have been made into TV mini-series, movies, plays, and graphic novels.  They have also inspired many authors to re-write and/or write ‘sequels’ to the existing books.
