Autumn and rain and …

Here we are, in the middle of October.  The past month and a half has flown by as we have come back and yet again are getting used to another new schedule.  The semester system seems awfully full.  I know some of you are finding it hard to find time to breathe, let alone take a break.  But for your own sake, set aside some relaxation time – even if Read More …

Spring Has Sprung

It’s March, there’s one week till Spring Break, and I saw forsythias in bloom yesterday.  All around our neighbourhood bushes are budding, bulbs are popping up, and the rain is coming down.  Best of all, I walk to school and back home in the light.  I find my reading interests changing with the season as well.  Luckily, I was able to go shopping while the grade 12s were having their Read More …

Cool days, not so cozy reads

As the leaves are changing colour and the temperature drops, I am feeling more inclined to grab a cup of tea and curl up in a chair with a good book.  I have been reading a variety lately, fiction and non-fiction.  A couple of the library’s new books that I’ve dipped into are The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow and Ink & Bone by Rachel Caine. The Scorpion Rules is Read More …

Knitting

As lots of you know, I am a Knitter (notice the capital ‘K’).  But so are many of you.  I am seeing and hearing about more and more of you – students as well as teachers – who are picking up the needles.  There is nothing like the feel of a really nice yarn and the feeling of accomplishment as you see your project take shape. Spring Break Reading

New Books

The sun is shining (at least for today) and it’s beginning to feel like Spring.  Along with new life outside, there’s new life in the library in the form of new books.  The New Fiction stand is just inside the doors.  Check it over the next week or so as books are added to it.  Whether your tastes run to mystery, adventure, fantasy, science fiction, romance, or something different, there Read More …

New Books

I’ve been shopping again.  I have the best job – I get to buy books for a living! You are all so lucky that Burnaby supports its school libraries so strongly.  New books in the library include a number of sequels.  Many of these are dystopia – so if you’re a Hunger Games fan, there’s definitely something new here for you.  The Rangers Apprentice series, by John Flanagan,  is now Read More …

New Books

There are many new books in the library. My personal favourite is Mail-Order Mysteries. This book takes me back to my comic reading days. Oh, how I wanted my own family of sea monkeys. I still remember them; mom had great hair. And the ad promised that they could be trained – and ads never lie. There were so many more great (mysterious) items waiting to be ordered.  This book Read More …
