Math Is Beautiful…

On our District Professional day, UBC Professor of Math Education Susan Gerofsky, was one of the presenters who showed us the beautiful embodiment of math.  In addition to  teaching us how to use our bodies to represent multiples, factoring, and graphing, Susan had us engage in a  dance around a pole (thanks to Stride teacher Stathi Marghelis for being the pole!) that resulted in the production of a braided ribbon.

This is an excellent reminder to us that math as practiced by mathematicians is beautiful and engaging. Using the physical and visual components of math for our students helps them see this beauty and explore it for themselves.
