Author visits at Capitol Hill

We were so happy to have some wonderful author visitors to our school this week.

On Tuesday, some intermediate classes were wowed by Canadian author Kenneth Oppel. He shared his inspiration and process of writing the trilogy of books : BLOOM, HATCH, and THRIVE. Students asked insightful questions and were excited to dig into this series and his other exciting books. Did you know that some of his inspiration was from his daughter’s nightmares?!

On Wednesday, some primary classes got a chance to learn about environmental issues through author Shaziya Jaffer’s books THE GIRL WHO RECYCLED 1 MILLION CANS and A RECYCLING ADVENTURE. Grade 1 and 2 students got a chance to discover which objects were ferrous and non-ferrous and are inspired to collect cans and metal to return to the recycling depot.
