Up to $5,000 Lisa Huus Bursary for students with physical disabilities. Due May 31st

Now accepting applications for 2019/2020 LISA HUUS BURSARY

To assist persons with physical disabilities to begin or continue post-secondary education in British Columbia.

The Lisa Huus Memorial Fund was created in memory of Lisa Pauline Huus in 1988 by her family and has been supported by personal donations and fundraising activities for 30 years.

Each year the Huus Family, in partnership with Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island (formerly Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children) and generous donors, award bursaries to support the education of students with disabilities.

The purpose of the fund is to provide bursaries, in the range of $500 – $5000 annually per recipient, to assist persons with disabilities to undertake or continue their post-secondary education at an accredited post-secondary institution in British Columbia. Bursaries may be used for items such as tuition fees, textbooks, equipment, transportation, residence and support worker costs.

The bursary was established in 1988 by the family of Lisa Pauline Huus, a sociology student at the University of Victoria. “Lisa fought for her rights to go to university and be treated just like any other student,” says her mother Annie Huus. “We established this fund so that students with physical challenges like Lisa can access much needed financial support to pursue their educational dreams.”

If you or someone you know is an individual with a disability, please visit https://islandkidsfirst.com/lisa-huus-bursary/. For more information on the story behind the Lisa Huus Bursary, eligibility requirements and the application process. Additionally, you can email bursaries@islandkidsfirst.com or call 250-940-4950 to speak to one of our staff about this opportunity.

ScholarTree.ca has added 25 new scholarships this week. Keep checking and applying!

The next two months are when the majority of scholarship applications close for students who will be attending post-secondary school next year. This is the perfect time to encourage students to set aside some time and focus on applying to scholarships!

At ScholarTree.ca we are continually adding new scholarships to the site. In the last couple of weeks, we have added more than 25 new scholarships!

We have started to put an emphasis on local or regional scholarships as those tend to be less competitive and give students a better chance at winning. Canada is a very large country so it will take us a while to add scholarships in every municipality.
