Mathematics 9

Overview

  • Prerequisite: Mathematics 8
  • Textbook: Math Makes Sense 9

Mathematics 9 course follows the provincial curriculum, with an emphasis on:

  • using communication in order to learn and express their understanding
  • making connections with mathematical ideas, concepts in mathematics, everyday experiences and other disciplines
  • demonstrating fluency with mental mathematics and estimation
  • developing and applying new mathematical knowledge through problem solving
  • developing mathematical reasoning
  • using technology as a tools for learning and solving problems
  • developing visualization skills to assist in processing information
  • making connections and solving problems.

  • rational numbers
  • linear equations
  • circle geometry
  • polynomials
  • factoring
  • coordinate geometry
  • linear inequalities
  • statistics
  • probability
  • surface area
  • similarity and scale figures

Evaluation Guidelines:

The evaluation of this course will based upon tests, in-class assignments, homework and occasional projects.

What type of student enjoys and is successful in this course?
Students will need to attend regularly and ask for help when unsure about mathematical concepts. Students who complete all in-class and homework assignments will find success in this course.
