In Burnaby, Indigenous peoples have been in relationship with this land since time immemorial. Our community of place based learners and teachers have been working to connect our students to the land in meaningful ways, developing relationship, compassion, and community in the homelands and waterways of the Coast Salish peoples, including the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish),and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are committed to finding ways to enact the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, and in supporting diverse ways of knowing, learning, and being.

The B (Burnaby) Outside Local Specialist Association is a group of Burnaby educators who meet each season to share stories and collaborate on ways to support place-based learning across the district through book clubs, workshops, and networks of support.
