2023 – High school info session – Brochure

The UBC Engineering Physics Program would like to invite teachers, students, and students’ parents to attend our on-campus info event on Saturday, January 28th, 2023

This event will be held in the atrium of the UBC Forestry Building (2424 Main Mall) from 10am to 2pm. Please see this link for the exact location.

Engineering Physics is a broad engineering degree with extra emphasis on physics and math. In addition to core engineering skills (mechanical, electrical, software), engineering physicists are equipped with a deep understanding of fundamental science and analytical methods to tackle challenges at the forefront of any field, from biotechnology and medicine to quantum computing, artificial intelligence, fusion power, and aerospace, to provide just a few examples.

We believe our program, one of the most rigorous and challenging at the undergraduate level, will be of interest to your strongest math and science students, especially those who want to pursue careers in research, invention, and entrepreneurship.

We kindly ask that anyone who is interested please register for the event at the link below, and no later than January 24. We will email registrants a confirmation a few days before the event. Space is limited; however, we will post a recording of the keynote presentation on our website after the event.

To register, please fill in the RSVP form here: https://forms.gle/D2VHQrzeYfxa6UdM6

Event information is available at our website. We will post a recording of the main talk at this link after the event. https://www.engphys.ubc.ca/events/

SET Talk January 30th 2021, Topic: Public Health.

SFU Applied Sciences Outreach offers fun, engaging workshops and resources that encourage youths to explore topics in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). We aim to not only enhance STEM literacy among youths in BC, but also foster an appreciation of how science can be used to make sense of the world we live in and improve how we do things.

Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) Talks is a speaker series that provides secondary school students with the opportunity to meet and interact with role models in SET fields.

During this event, our guest speakers, which consist of graduate students, faculty members, and/or working professionals, will talk about their career path and what made them pursue the field they are in. They will also present and discuss a meaningful project they have worked on or are currently working on.

Finally, there will be a Q&A session for students to ask questions and interact with our guest speakers. This speaker series is also open to the public as we want to encourage parents, guardians, and teachers to join us in supporting youths who are interested in pursuing post-secondary studies in these disciplines.

The topic of our upcoming SET Talks in January is public health. Public health is an area of study that aims to promote “the organized effort of society to keep people healthy and prevent injury, illness and premature death” (What is public health?, n.d., para. 1). This could be achieved through a variety of ways, including research, policies, and educational programs. Additionally, this area of study has become increasingly relevant due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If you are interested in pursuing this field of study and would like to learn more, join our upcoming event to meet and interact with professionals working in this area! See details below.
