BC Excellence Scholarships

There are 55 BC Excellence Scholarships available to recognize well-rounded B.C. graduates. Winners will have demonstrated community service, both inside and outside their schools, and shown aptitude and commitment to their chosen career paths. They will receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to use for post-secondary tuition.

Students must be nominated for this scholarship by their school. If nominated, the student must submit an application (PDF) to their school district or independent school authority, who will forward it to the Ministry of Education for adjudication by the selection committee.

A student cannot win both a BC Excellence Scholarship and a Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship.

Districts/authorities must submit application packages on behalf of their nominees to the Ministry by March 31, 2016

Loran Scholarship

downloadLoran Award ($100,000 award, 30 available)

  • Valued at up to $100,000 over four years, including a $9,000 annual stipend and matching tuition waiver, access to funding and internships through our summer program, invitations to annual gatherings and forums, and one-on-one mentorship
  • Offered to 30 finalists after national selections.
  • Tenable at one of 25 partner universities and must be renewed annually.
  • Certificates are sent to schools in June.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • Be in their final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school.
  • Present a minimum cumulative average of 85%.
  • Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Be at least 16 years of age by September 1, 2016.

The deadlines for Loran Award applications are October 21 (sponsored applicants) and October 28 (direct pool applicants)

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

4849729Twenty TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are awarded to students in their last year of high school or CEGEP (in Quebec) who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community. Each scholarship has a value of up to $70,000 and includes:

  • Up to $10,000 for tuition per year (for up to a maximum of four years)
  • $7,500 a year for living expenses (for up to a maximum of four years)

But that’s not all. These scholarships also help you make connections that could last a lifetime, including:

  • Offers of paid summer employment
  • Mentor ship opportunities
  • Annual gatherings, networking opportunities and more

To qualify for this Scholarship you must:

  • Have demonstrated community leadership
  • Be in your final year of high school or CEGEP (in Quebec)
  • Have a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year

Scholarship Meeting for Grads of 2015-16

Dear Grads of 2016,

We will have a scholarship meeting in the CFD, on Wednesday, October 14th, during tutorial and then again during lunch hour in order to accommodate the tutorial mentors. Please pick up a Scholarship student profile form and have it filled out before the meeting so that it is ready to be handed in during the meeting.

There are a few scholarships with due dates drawing very close, so please be very diligent with checking in every single day, so that you won’t miss anything like the Loran, Horatioalger, and many others…

Also, I have a sign-up sheet posted on my door for students who are interested in having a private consultation meetings with me regarding their scholarships, applications for post-secondary plans.  Please drop by to put your name down. I am available for the consultation meeting from Tuesday to Friday  (October 13th-16th) during blocks B, C, and D. After the 16th, I am still available for consultation, but you have to just drop by during breaks or lunch time  to  make an appointment.
