Intermediate Puzzles

week of june 22

Some students this week have been asking me if I knew any riddles, so here you go.  Mind you, they are not ones I have made up myself (found at Riddles.com/frenchtoday.com) but fun nonetheless!

1. I am not alive, but I grow; I don’t have lungs, but I need air; I don’t have a mouth, but water kills me. What am I?

2.  I am something people love or hate. I change peoples appearances and thoughts. If a person takes care of them self I will go up even higher. To some people I will fool them. To others I am a mystery. Some people might want to try and hide me but I will show. No matter how hard people try I will Never go down. What am I?

3.  Je traverse les vitres sans les casser, qui suis-je ?

And a Joke:

Le maître s’adresse à ses élèves :
– Je vais vous rendre vos devoirs de mathématiques. Il s’agissait d’un problème de robinet qui fuit. Toto, tu n’as rien répondu mais tu as écrit un numéro de téléphone. Pourquoi ?
– C’est celui de mon père, m’sieur, il est plombier…

Answers:

  1.  Fire
  2. Age
  3.  Les rayons de soleil  (Sunbeam)

1.  A girl meets a lion and unicorn in the forest. The lion lies every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the other days he speaks the truth. The unicorn lies on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and the other days of the week he speaks the truth. “Yesterday I was lying,” the lion told the girl. “So was I,” said the unicorn. What day is it?

2.  Four people are crossing a bridge at night, so they all need a torch—but they just have one that only lasts 15 minutes. Alice can cross in one minute, Ben in two minutes, Cindy in five minutes and Don in eight minutes. No more than two people can cross at a time; and when two cross, they have to go at the slower person’s pace. How do they get across in 15 minutes?
